Wound Care

Follow for my story- 📕

Let me 😊 start by saying that I am well aware that there is absolutely worse things happening to underserving people 🦴 and I am truly thankful that I am dealing with this and not anything worse.

I would not 🆘 be able to complete the daily care tasks without a few people that take the time out of their busy day to care for me. My parents, oh my most loving and selfless mom and dad that clearly would do anything and everything to care for me. 🤧

They not only cancelled multiple vacations, 🏖️ concerts, classes, and even work.

My husband who also cancelled vacations and concerts. He continues to take care of the household chores, the animals, the bills, the shopping and continues to work and provide. 🛒

and of course my amazing sisters who traveled over state lines to visit me, and one who droped everything to meet me at the hospital and continues to check in. ❣️

This is what you call a family!

🧑‍⚕️Anywho, I have to keep my wounds clean and clear of infection! Sounds scary 🫣.

Sometimes just working my way to the shower is the hardest part. The positioning, the undressing, and the reaching. Eeeeeeeef me, trust me it’s a workout. 🏋🏻‍♂️

I need assistance washing my feetsies 🦶 and undressing. From there I am able to use my shower bench and hand held shower 🚿 head to washy washy. 🧼

I have to balance and stand on one freaking 🦵 leg to brush the teeths 🦷 and do all the things to make sure I stay super sexy.

Making my way back to the couch 🛋️ we start the nasty ass wound care process 🩹.

Yikes‼️

WASH YOUR FREAKING HANDS, ware gloves 🧤,

and set up all of the material.

Small little FYI: we’re not worried about saving the planet with the amount of medical 🏥 supplies and wraps we use. Being Sterile Is KEY 🔑

Take off all wraps and bandages, spray with wound cleaner, swabbing it, and layering on medicated wraps and gauze 🧽 all while the wounds are getting irritated and 😡 that we are touching it.

We’re just going to stick to the process, the plan to do everything we can to prevent 🌋 catastrophe.

Xoxoxo i’m gettin there 💪

... Read moreHey everyone! Following up on my journey with intensive wound care, I wanted to share a bit about common wound misconceptions and critical first aid, especially for those smaller injuries we might encounter. When you read about my daily battles with complex dressing changes, it really highlights how crucial proper care is, no matter the size of the wound. Just like my own challenging situations, preventing infection is paramount. I've seen so many discussions online about 'home remedies' for cuts, and one that often pops up is using things like 'lemon on a wound'. Honestly, please don't! While natural remedies can be tempting, especially when you're looking for quick solutions, putting lemon juice on an open wound can cause severe pain, intense irritation, and even chemical burns. This doesn't help the healing process; in fact, it can significantly hinder it and dramatically increase the risk of bacterial infection. The acidity of lemon is far too harsh for delicate wound tissue. For something as important as wound healing, sticking to medically approved antiseptics and sterile bandages is always the safest bet. My own experience with needing sterile medical supplies for my extensive wounds has absolutely drilled this into me – cleanliness and proper products are KEY to avoiding complications. Always clean minor cuts with mild soap and water, or a saline solution, and then cover with a clean dressing or bandage to protect it. And what about those incredibly delicate situations, like a 'small cut on an eyelid of a toddler'? This is definitely one of those times when immediate medical attention is non-negotiable. The skin around the eye is incredibly thin and sensitive, and any cut there, no matter how tiny, carries a high risk of infection, scarring, or even potential vision problems. For children, especially, their immune systems are still developing, and they might not understand not to touch, rub, or pick at the wound, which can introduce bacteria. As someone who experiences daily care routines that are far from enjoyable and require meticulous precision, I can only imagine the stress of keeping a child's eyelid wound clean and protected. It's not just about applying a bandage; it's about ensuring no foreign bodies are present, assessing depth, and sometimes requiring stitches or special adhesive. Always seek professional medical advice for such delicate injuries to ensure proper cleaning, assessment, and potentially a specialized bandage or dressing from a medical setting. It's about preventing infection, promoting proper healing, and ensuring the best possible outcome. Every wound, big or small, deserves proper, sterile, and informed care!
