I am not a huge fan of McDonald's, but I really loved their snack wraps. I had been craving them, so I decided to make them at home. This has now become one of my favorites to make.
You'll need:
1.) Tortillas (I used taco size)
2.) Chicken tenders (I used Perdue)
3.) Shredded lettuce.
4.) Shredded cheese (I used Mexican blend)
*additional toppings you may wish to use that I have here, bbq sauce, ranch dressing, Buffalo sauce.
1.) Preheat oven to 425°. Spray baking sheet with cooking spray. Line chicken in a single layer on the sheet. Cook for 15-17 minutes.
2.) Prep tortilla onto plate.
3.) Once chicken is cooked, I chop down one tender per tortilla. I just make it bite-sized pieces so it's easier to eat.
4.) Layer with shredded cheese, shredded lettuce, and sauces of choice. Here, I have one wrap with BBQ & ranch, and one with Buffalo & ranch. *Tip: it is safer to shred your own lettuce at home than to buy it pre-shredded. Always wash the lettuce. You can help keep down on listeria this way.*
... Read moreSince I started making these homemade snack wraps, I've really enjoyed playing around with different ingredients and making them even healthier! One of the biggest advantages of DIY wraps is knowing exactly what goes into them, especially when it comes to calories. A classic fast-food snack wrap can pack quite a calorie punch, often due to fried chicken and creamy dressings. But at home, you're the chef!
If you're keeping an eye on your snack wrap calories, here are some easy swaps I love. Instead of relying on store-bought fried chicken tenders, try baking or air-frying your own chicken breast seasoned with your favorite spices. Using grilled chicken is an even leaner option! For tortillas, I often reach for whole wheat or low-carb versions, which can significantly reduce the calorie and carb count compared to regular flour tortillas. And dressings? Light ranch, a squeeze of fresh lime juice with a little sriracha, or a homemade vinaigrette can be delicious alternatives to heavier, cream-based sauces.
Beyond the basics, the beauty of a homemade snack wrap is the endless customization! Don't limit yourself to just lettuce and cheese. I sometimes add diced tomatoes, red onion for a kick, or even some black beans and corn for a Southwestern twist. Avocado slices add healthy fats and creaminess, while a sprinkle of fresh cilantro brightens everything up. For cheese, I've found that a sharp cheddar or pepper jack can add a lot of flavor without needing a huge amount, helping to manage your snack wrap calories.
Making these wraps is also fantastic for meal prep! I often cook a batch of chicken at the beginning of the week, chop my veggies, and then it's just a matter of assembling them when I'm ready for a quick lunch or dinner. You can keep the components separate and assemble right before eating to prevent your tortilla from getting soggy. It’s such a time-saver and so much more satisfying than reaching for takeout. Plus, it's so much more budget-friendly in the long run!
For those who love a bit of heat, try adding a dash of hot sauce directly to your chicken or mixing it into your ranch. Or, if you're feeling adventurous, experiment with international flavors like a drizzle of sweet chili sauce or a sprinkle of taco seasoning. The possibilities are truly endless, making these homemade snack wraps a weekly staple for me. Enjoy creating your perfect, personalized wrap!
