Exotic Meat Tasting 👍🏼 or 👎🏼
This weekend my husband and I tried some unique and not so unique meats. Everyone probably has a different opinion on these so by all means give them a try for yourself and let us know what you think!
We tried:
1️⃣ Bison
2️⃣ Camel
3️⃣ Goat
4️⃣ Wild Boar
For us we already knew we loved bison. Pretty standard in our household. Camel had the texture of a beef meatball, would eat again; would not search for it. Goat was quite undesirable for us. Do not come for us we are aware it is quite popular in many cultures. Wild boar was good to me, not so much for him. Let us know in the comments if you would try any of these or if you have your opinion on it!
After my recent adventure trying bison, camel, goat, and wild boar – what an experience! – I've had so many people ask me, 'Where do you even find these exotic meats?' It's a great question, and honestly, it opened my eyes to a whole world beyond your typical grocery store butcher block. If you're inspired to try something new, here's what I've learned about sourcing these unique proteins. First off, specialty meat markets are often your best bet. While my tasting might have focused on cooked samples, many of these markets, especially in larger cities like Phoenix, often stock a surprising variety. You might not always find fresh kangaroo meat, but it's worth checking local high-end butcher shops or international food markets. I've heard amazing things about kangaroo—it's supposed to be lean, gamey, and very flavorful, often compared to venison. It's definitely on my list to try next! Beyond local stores, the internet has made sourcing exotic meats incredibly easy. There are several reputable online purveyors that ship everything from alligator and venison to, yes, even kangaroo and camel meat right to your door. This is often the most reliable way to find specific cuts or harder-to-find species if your local options are limited. Just always look for suppliers with good reviews and ethical sourcing practices. Imagine hosting your own exotic meat tasting party with friends – you could have bison burgers, wild boar sausages, and even camel steaks! When you do get your hands on some exotic meat, don't be afraid to experiment with cooking! I found that bison is quite lean, similar to beef but with a richer flavor, so it cooks faster. Camel, with its beef-like texture, was surprisingly versatile. Goat, while not my personal favorite this time, is beloved in many cuisines and can be fantastic slow-cooked with aromatic spices. And wild boar? It has a delicious, slightly sweet and nutty flavor that's amazing braised or roasted. Each meat truly has its own character, making the cooking and tasting experience all the more exciting. So, whether you're in Phoenix looking for a local exotic meat market or planning to order online, diving into the world of unique meats is an adventure. Don't be shy – expand your culinary horizons! Have you tried kangaroo before? Or found an amazing local spot for exotic meats? Let me know your tips – I'm always looking for my next tasting experience!
