Behind the Song : Northern Star (I See Her)
After my divorce, I had a few friends, women, who were incredibly supportive. And at the time, I was really reflecting a lot upon my relationship, and talking to many of them about their lives and just trying to be there for them in the way they were there for me, and I think I just started to think to myself how much women can be self-critical of themselves. And I do think a lot of that comes from societal expectation and who we choose to idolize. How can that not make them feel like they have to be a certain way, right? But before writing Northern Star, I just was thinking how much I wish they could see themselves through the eyes of the people who care about them. So yeah, that's what I tried to capture in Northern Star, and I think it's no surprise that the ones who've told me the song resonated with them the most or who got emotional listening were women. So idk, every woman out there who doubts themselves. I just wanna say please don't beat yourself up.
You are enough. You are somebody's Northern Star even if your head doesn't always tell you that. ⭐️
