For a long time, I think I, like many others, had a narrow view of strength. It was often about being dainty or fitting a certain mold. But my journey has taught me that true strength comes in so many forms, and proudly owning your power is incredibly liberating. It's not just about physical prowess; it's a holistic approach to feeling truly empowered. When I started my fitness journey, my initial goal wasn't just to look a certain way, but to feel capable. I dove into weightlifting and functional training, and let me tell you, there’s nothing quite like the feeling of lifting heavier than you thought possible or pushing through a tough workout. It’s incredibly empowering! You learn what your body is capable of, and it builds an immense amount of self-trust. I distinctly remember a moment when, after hitting a new personal best, someone casually remarked, "Wow, she's bigger than you!" in terms of strength, and instead of feeling self-conscious about my growing muscles, I felt a huge surge of pride. It wasn't about comparison; it was a clear validation of the hard work and dedication I'd poured into myself. This physical strength translates into everyday life too – carrying groceries becomes easier, moving furniture isn't a struggle, and you just feel more resilient. But being a 'big strong girl' isn't just about what you can lift. It's deeply rooted in mental resilience. It's about having the confidence to stand up for yourself, to tackle challenges head-on, and to bounce back when things get tough. There are days when I don't feel like myself, when motivation is low, but reminding myself of the inner strength I've cultivated helps me push through. It’s about building a mindset that says, 'I can do this,' even when doubts creep in. This mental fortitude is just as, if not more, important than physical strength, helping you navigate life's ups and downs with grace and determination. So, how can you embark on your own journey to becoming a 'big strong girl'? Start Small, Dream Big: Don't feel pressured to lift heavy from day one. Focus on proper form and consistency. Even bodyweight exercises can build a solid foundation. Find an activity you genuinely enjoy, whether it’s hiking, dancing, or powerlifting! Fuel Your Body Intentionally: What you eat plays a huge role in strength and energy. Focus on whole foods, plenty of protein for muscle repair, and staying well-hydrated. Think of food as fuel for your amazing body. Challenge Your Mind: Step out of your comfort zone. Try a new sport, learn a new skill, or simply practice positive self-talk. Your mind is a muscle too, and it needs to be exercised to grow stronger. Find Your Community: Surround yourself with supportive people who uplift you. Whether it’s a gym buddy, an online fitness group, or friends who share your passion, encouragement makes a huge difference. Celebrate Progress, Not Perfection: Every small victory counts. Don't compare your journey to anyone else's. Remember, the phrase 'She's bigger than you' can also be a personal mantra – referring to your own incredible growth and progress over time, not just in comparison to others. Ultimately, being a 'big strong girl' is about empowerment, self-acceptance, and living a life where you feel capable, confident, and unapologetically yourself. It's a continuous journey of growth, both inside and out.
