Because I treated them like separate problems for a long time.
The hair changes I chalked up to stress and getting older.
The feeling of not quite being myself I chalked up to being busy and overwhelmed.
Two different things happening in two different areas of my life that I kept trying to address separately and getting nowhere with either of them.
What I did not understand was that both of them were coming from the same place. Hormones and cortisol that had been dysregulated for long enough to affect everything downstream. My hair follicles losing the support they needed. My gut-brain connection running without what it needed to keep my mood and my energy and my sense of self stable.
Same root. Completely different symptoms.
Once I understood that and stopped chasing each symptom separately everything I did started actually making a difference because I was finally addressing what was actually causing all of it.
Follow me, I am sharing what finally connected all of this for me and what I did about it 🌸
From my own experience as a busy mom, I noticed a gradual change that seemed unrelated at first: increased hair shedding and a persistent feeling of being unlike myself. Initially, I attributed the hair loss to stress and aging, while my emotional state was blamed on an overwhelming schedule. What I didn't realize was that these were symptoms of a deeper issue involving hormone and cortisol dysregulation. Hormones play a critical role in regulating not just physical attributes such as hair growth, but also our mood, energy, and overall sense of well-being. When cortisol—the body’s primary stress hormone—is out of balance, it can disrupt the delicate hormonal ecosystem required for optimal health. This imbalance affected my hair follicles directly, causing them to weaken and shed more hair than usual. At the same time, the gut-brain axis, which influences mood and cognitive function, was also impacted, leading to feelings of disconnection and low energy. What turned things around for me was shifting my focus from treating these as isolated problems to exploring holistic approaches that address hormone balance and stress regulation together. Incorporating lifestyle changes such as improved sleep quality, balanced nutrition, regular gentle exercise, and mindfulness practices helped recalibrate my cortisol levels. Additionally, I sought guidance from healthcare professionals who specialize in hormonal health, which allowed for individualized treatment plans. Understanding that my hair loss and emotional changes stemmed from the same root cause transformed my approach to health. It’s important for others experiencing similar issues to consider a comprehensive evaluation of their hormonal health rather than just targeting symptoms individually. Tackling this underlying hormonal imbalance not only improved my hair condition but also restored my energy and emotional resilience. This journey taught me how interconnected our body systems truly are, reminding us to listen closely to how seemingly unrelated symptoms may actually be clues pointing toward a common cause.
