“My dog got into the cleaning bottles!”
“My dog destroyed my expensive work boots!”
“My dog had major surgery and idk how I’ll keep him from running around!”
“My dog has accidents every day on my carpet in the apartment I rent and now I don’t think I’ll get my deposit back!”
“I have to go on vacation and need to board my dog, no one will take her because she isn’t kennel trained!”
Do better by your dog and kennel train them. Do better by your home and yourself too. It’s okay to not have them up under you 25/8. It’s okay to be separated. It is beneficial! MINIMUM you should drill training in the kennel the first year! Dogs earn freedoms - they shouldn’t be immediately given.

Reflecting on my own experience with kennel training, I can confidently say it transformed life for both me and my dog. One of the biggest surprises was realizing how much a well-trained dog benefits from having a secure and comfortable kennel space. Initially, my dog was restless and resistant, but with patience and consistency, he began to view his kennel as a safe haven rather than a restriction. One tip I found invaluable was to associate positive reinforcements like treats and toys with kennel time. This way, my dog willingly went in and even chose to spend some quiet time resting there. Importantly, the kennel prevented him from getting into harmful substances or damaging household items when I couldn’t supervise him closely. It also gave me peace of mind during his recovery after surgery, keeping him calm and contained without constant stress. Especially for apartment renters, kennel training can save deposits by reducing accidents on carpets and furniture. Plus, kennel-trained dogs are often easier to board when you travel, as kennels at care facilities appreciate dogs who are accustomed to crate environments. The key is to start training early and be consistent, allowing your dog to earn freedoms instead of granting them too soon. Overall, kennel training fosters healthy boundaries for your dog and improved harmony at home. It’s a simple yet essential tool for responsible dog ownership that benefits everyone involved.
