In today’s social media-driven culture, many people find themselves caught up in the desire to be perceived as good or virtuous by others. However, this constant preoccupation with others’ approval often leads to inauthentic behavior. The idea that “people who are obsessed with being viewed as good people are never good people” highlights a profound truth about human nature and personal integrity. From my own experience, I've noticed that when people focus too much on how they are seen, their actions become performative rather than genuine. Instead of cultivating kindness and honesty for their own sake, they seek validation, which can undermine true goodness. Authenticity requires acting in alignment with one’s values, independent of external judgments. Reflecting on this, I’ve come to appreciate that being genuinely good involves embracing vulnerability and acknowledging imperfections. It is about acting with empathy, kindness, and understanding, not for the applause of others but because it is intrinsically right. The pressure to maintain a flawless image can sometimes mask true intentions or create barriers to meaningful connections. This observation resonates strongly in everyday life situations—whether it’s in personal relationships, work environments, or social interactions. Focusing less on appearances and more on sincere actions allows individuals to cultivate respect, trust, and deeper bonds with others. Ultimately, freeing ourselves from the obsession with being “seen” as good invites personal growth. It encourages us to develop a character rooted in honesty and humility, reminding us that true goodness is reflected in our consistent and heartfelt actions rather than in fleeting public perceptions.
