「10分で読める名作」って、正直“薄くて簡単な話”なのかな？と思っていたのですが、読んでみると意外としっかり「感動の物語」が多くて、読み終わった後に親子で余韻が残りました。うちでは2年生用と4年生用を手に取ることが多いのですが、どちらも日本と世界の短編名作が13作品収録で、毎日1話ずつ進めやすいのが助かっています。 よかったポイントは「学年別」で選びやすいこと。背伸びして難しい名作を選ぶと、途中で止まってしまいがちですが、このシリーズは“その学年にぴったり”な文章量と語彙になっているので、最後まで読み切れる確率が上がりました。結果として「読書が楽しくなる！」は本当だな、と実感。10分という区切りがあるだけで、宿題や習い事の合間でも取り組みやすく、読書習慣の導入にも向いていました。 あと、表紙のイラストが子どもの食いつきに直結しました。船に乗った人物の絵や、お城の前に兵隊とバレリーナがいる絵など、パッと見て「どんな話？」と想像しやすいタイプで、最初の1ページ目に入るハードルが下がります。読み始めたら短編なのでテンポよく進み、集中力も続きやすい印象でした。 読解力アップのために我が家でやっているのは、読み終わった後の“ミニ会話”。感想を言うだけでも十分ですが、学校でよく出る「作者の気持ちを答えなさい」系に慣れるために、次の3つを軽く聞くようにしています。 ・いちばん心が動いた場面はどこ？（感動した理由も一言） ・登場人物はそのときどんな気持ちだったと思う？（本文の言葉を根拠に） ・もし自分だったらどうする？（自分の意見） “正解を当てる”というより、「本文のどこからそう思ったか」を一緒に探す感じにすると、子どもも嫌がりにくかったです。短編だから根拠の場所も見つけやすく、復習もしやすいのがメリット。 プレゼントにも向いていて、進級・進学のタイミングで「その学年の1冊」を渡すと特別感が出ました。読む本に迷ったら、まずはこのシリーズを入口にして、気に入った作品の“長い原作”に次に進む流れが作りやすいと思います。
