My full skincare routine as a 49 yo Esthetician

My FULL nighttime skincare routine as a 49-year-old Esthetician. I always start with a double cleanse to make sure all dirt and makeup is fully removed so anything I apply after can actually work at optimal levels.

Next, I go in with hydration. Look for products with at least two types of hyaluronic acid for multiple layers of plumping.

Right now I'm loving the e.l.f. Triple Bounce. Pro tip: always pat it into damp skin so it locks in water and gives that fuller, more hydrated look.

Tonight is a treatment night, and this is my splurge - Yonka Glyconight 10% Masque. If your skin is looking tired, dull, or you're noticing fine lines, this is a game changer. Apply it and leave it on overnight — you'll wake up with brighter, smoother, more even skin. And it doesn't feel like a mask, more like a light lotion.

Because my skin is dry, + pat moisturizer on top (never rub or you'll disturb the treatment). I use La Roche-Posay Double Repair - great for mature skin.

Don't forget your neck and chest. I use Gold Bond Retinol Overnight lotion to help smooth fine lines and keep that area looking youthful.

And for lips — I'm a mouth breather, always need something on them anyway. I use RoC Lip Volumizer so l wake up with more hydrated, fuller-looking lips.

1 always look for affordability. Even though some of these are a little pricier, they last a long time. Pro tip: buy travel sizes (like Yonka) - they last forever and save you money.

You do NOT need a long, complicated routine. This is just what I do - it can absolutely be simpler.

... Read moreStarting a nighttime skincare routine with a thorough double cleanse is absolutely crucial, especially as we age. I've found that cleansing twice removes all traces of dirt, makeup, and impurities that can block active ingredients from penetrating the skin properly. Incorporating hydration with multiple types of hyaluronic acid helps plump the skin by locking in moisture at different levels. A pro tip is to always pat your hydrating serum or product into damp skin, which enhances absorption and boosts the skin’s hydrated appearance. For treatment nights, I highly recommend using masks or products with ingredients like glycolic acid or gentle acids such as those found in the Yonka Glyconight 10% Masque. Leaving such treatments overnight can significantly brighten dull skin, smooth fine lines, and improve overall texture without feeling heavy. Since mature and dry skin can be more delicate, it’s essential to pat moisturizer on top gently rather than rubbing to avoid disturbing the treatment layers. Never neglect the neck and chest area — these zones often show early signs of aging. Using a retinol-infused lotion can help smooth fine lines and keep the skin looking youthful. For lips, especially if you breathe through your mouth at night, a nourishing lip volumizer or balm is a game changer; it keeps lips hydrated and full by morning. One thing I emphasize is balancing product efficacy with affordability. Even if you buy higher-end or splurge items, they can last a long time. Buying travel sizes can provide the benefits at a lower cost and help you try products without a big commitment. Finally, remember that your skincare routine doesn’t have to be complicated or lengthy. Consistency and selecting products targeted to your specific needs are far more important. Over 40 skincare should focus on hydration, gentle exfoliation, and barrier support to maintain radiant, youthful skin. This ritual, combined with a mindful approach to ingredient choice—like hyaluronic acid, retinol, and gentle acids—can make a big difference in your skin’s appearance and health. Always listen to your skin's needs and adjust accordingly, and you'll see lasting benefits over time.
