One of the biggest misconceptions about running is that it automatically equals weight loss.
I’m currently in a fat loss phase AND still running every day but I am not running to lose weight. Hear me out…
I’m running because I genuinely love it, and during this fat loss phase, running is simply the form of cardio I’ve chosen. That’s it.
🎯 The goal isn’t to run as hard or as fast as possible. The goal is to train in a way that supports the season you’re in.
In this clip of Vol.41, Episode 03, I share how I’m approaching running during Week 5 of my SHRED and why I’m currently running for time, not pace.

Running has long been celebrated as an effective way to shed pounds, but from my personal experience, it’s not always the direct path to weight loss many believe it to be. When I embarked on my fat loss phase, I quickly realized that running daily wasn’t just about burning calories—it was about finding joy in the movement and choosing a cardio form that fits my lifestyle. This realization shifted my mindset: I stopped chasing pace and intensity, instead focusing on running for time, which helped me build a sustainable routine without burning out. What’s helped me maintain consistency is embracing the idea of training according to the 'season' I’m in physically and mentally. For example, during Week 5 of my SHRED, running for a set duration rather than speed allowed me to stay energized and avoid injury. It also freed me from the pressure of racing against my previous records, letting me enjoy the process and gradually improve. Choosing running as my cardio wasn't about rapid weight loss but about integrating a form of exercise that I genuinely enjoy. This emotional connection to running has made my fat loss journey more balanced and less stressful. It also encourages body recomposition—where fat loss and muscle retention improve overall body composition, not just the number on the scale. Beyond fat loss, running has improved my mental clarity and mood, which are crucial aspects that fitness tracking apps often overlook. If you’re considering running for weight loss, I recommend starting with manageable time-based sessions rather than focusing solely on pace or distance. This approach helps you establish a positive routine and prevents burnout. Finally, remember that cardio choice should align with your personal preferences and fitness goals. Whether you’re in a runstreak or just starting out, running for joy, not just results, has transformed how I view my training and fat loss journey.
