Having a succulent start to bud flowers is always exciting, especially when it comes from a cutting of a healthy mom plant. From my experience, once you notice buds forming, it's important to adjust your care routine to support the blooming process. First, ensure your succulent receives plenty of bright, indirect sunlight, which promotes healthy flower development without stressing the plant. Too much direct sun can scorch the leaves, while too little light might cause the buds to drop. Watering should be carefully balanced; during budding, I reduce watering slightly compared to regular succulent care. Overwatering can lead to rot, particularly in cuttings, but underwatering might cause flower buds to shrivel and drop prematurely. It's best to let the soil dry out entirely between watering. Fertilizing can also support flowering. Using a diluted, balanced fertilizer or one higher in phosphorus can encourage stronger blooms. I’ve found that feeding during the budding stage, approximately every 3-4 weeks, helps maintain vigorous growth and vibrant flowers. Lastly, keep an eye out for pests like aphids or mealybugs that might target budding flowers. Treating infestations early with gentle insecticidal soap prevents damage to the delicate buds. Overall, being attentive to your succulent’s changing needs during this phase will increase the chances of enjoying beautiful, long-lasting flowers from your mom plant’s cutting.
