Lekuresi Castle. Sarande, Albania. 11/2019
If you're planning a trip to Lekuresi Castle, I highly recommend scheduling your visit around sunset. The castle offers panoramic views of Sarande and the Ionian Sea that are simply breathtaking as the sun dips below the horizon. Getting there is quite straightforward; you can take a taxi or a local bus from the Sarande town center, which takes about 10 to 15 minutes. The road up to the castle is winding, so if you prefer, some opt for an organized tour that includes transportation. In my experience, buying tickets on-site is simple, but during peak tourist seasons, it might be wise to check if reservations are available to avoid long waits. The castle grounds are well maintained, and there are a few cafes where you can relax and enjoy a drink while soaking in the views. Exploring Sarande old town after your visit to Lekuresi Castle adds to the cultural experience, with its charming streets and local eateries. As for the weather, Sarande typically enjoys a Mediterranean climate with mild winters and hot summers; dress accordingly, especially if visiting during the warmer months where shade inside the castle may be limited. I found the blend of historical architecture combined with nature’s beauty at Lekuresi Castle to be a highlight of my Albania itinerary, and it’s definitely a place I'd recommend to fellow travelers looking for authentic and picturesque destinations.
