Had sinus surgery yesterday!
Recovering now, it wasn’t too bad but was also a bit rough 😂
Balloon sinoplasty, Septoplasty (using some new tether thing they put in your septum to hold it in place) and turbinate reduction!
Had only 15% function of one nostril, nothing on the other! Sense of smell has been fading for years till now I had to really force it to smell anything and usually only smelled really bad stuff lol
So now hopefully fixed!! Can already breathe so much more thru my nose it’s wild!

Having undergone balloon sinuplasty, septoplasty, and turbinate reduction recently, I want to share some insights on what you might expect if you're considering similar sinus surgery. Balloon sinuplasty is a minimally invasive procedure that uses a small balloon to gently dilate your sinus passages, helping to restore normal drainage without cutting bone or tissue. This results in less pain and faster recovery compared to traditional sinus surgery. Septoplasty is performed to correct a deviated septum, which can severely impact breathing and even cause a loss of sense of smell. In my case, my septum was held in place with a newly introduced tethering device that helped stabilize it post-surgery, facilitating better healing and structural support. If you have a deviated septum causing significant nasal blockage like I did—where one nostril functioned at just 15% and the other not at all—septoplasty can make a huge difference in everyday comfort and overall sinus health. Turbinate reduction involves trimming the turbinates inside your nose, which can become enlarged and block airflow. This procedure helps open your nasal passages further, enhancing air intake and reducing congestion. One noticeable improvement right after surgery was the ability to breathe through my nose with ease, something I had nearly lost due to chronic sinus issues. While the recovery process can have some rough moments, such as pressure and discomfort, many patients find the long-term benefits far outweigh the temporary challenges. Over time, improved nasal airflow can lead to better sleep quality, reduced sinus infections, and the gradual return of the sense of smell, which had diminished for me over the years. If you're dealing with chronic sinus problems, such as frequent sinus infections, nasal obstruction, or reduced smell, consulting an ENT specialist about these surgical options might offer relief. Always ask about the latest techniques and devices, like the septum tether used in my surgery, which may enhance outcomes. From my experience, the key to a smoother recovery is following post-op care instructions closely, staying hydrated, and being patient as your nose heals. The improvement in breathing is truly life-changing, and sharing this journey hopefully encourages others facing similar challenges.
