One of my absolute go-to staples, which I always make sure to have on hand, is Great Value natural brown long grain rice. Seriously, if you're looking for an affordable and healthy carb source, this is it! I usually pick mine up at Walmart, where it's super accessible. It's a fantastic source of complex carbohydrates and fiber, which helps keep me feeling full and satisfied without overeating – crucial for bariatric patients. Unlike white rice, the brown variety retains more nutrients, and the 'natural long grain' kind cooks up beautifully fluffy every time. I find it digests well for me, too, which is always a consideration post-op. I love how versatile Great Value brown rice is. I often batch cook a big pot at the beginning of the week. Then, I can use it as a base for so many different meals. For a quick lunch, I'll combine it with canned tuna or salmon (another one of my pantry staples!) and a sprinkle of low-sodium seasoning.
