It’s going to me my first time getting surgery and I’m just ready to get through it because chronic tonsillitis is a b****
Hey everyone! So, as I mentioned, 'getting my tonsils removed' for the first time has been quite the journey, especially facing surgery during what felt like really 'uncertain times' for me back in November 2023. It’s totally normal to feel a mix of nerves and relief when you’re dealing with chronic tonsillitis and finally decided on a tonsillectomy. I wanted to share a bit more about how I built my 'inner foundation' to get through it, hoping it helps anyone else out there preparing for a similar experience. Before the surgery, the uncertainty was probably the hardest part. I spent a lot of time researching, but also trying to prepare myself mentally. One thing that helped me find my 'inner foundation' was creating a mini-plan for recovery. This included stocking up on soft foods like popsicles, jello, and mashed potatoes – seriously, don't underestimate the comfort of a good popsicle! I also made sure my recovery space was set up with plenty of water, my favorite books, and binge-worthy shows. Knowing I had a comfortable nest to retreat to made a huge difference. Emotionally, I focused on deep breathing exercises and positive affirmations. It sounds simple, but reminding myself that this surgery was for my long-term health, and that I was strong enough to handle it, really quieted some of the pre-op jitters. I also leaned on my support system. Talking to friends and family who had gone through surgeries before (even different ones) gave me a lot of comfort and practical tips. Don't be afraid to ask for help or just a listening ear! The recovery itself, particularly in those first few days after 'getting my tonsils removed', felt like a true test of patience. The pain can be intense, especially around day 5-7, but remembering my 'inner foundation' and the reason I was doing this kept me going. I made sure to stay on top of my pain medication schedule and kept a humidifier by my bed, which was a lifesaver for my throat. Hydration is key, even when it hurts to swallow! Looking back at my experience in November 2023, I'm so glad I went through with it. The 'uncertain times' leading up to it were tough, but the relief from chronic tonsillitis has been incredible. My biggest advice is to prepare both physically and mentally, and trust that you have the strength within you to get through it. You've got this!
