พรหมจริยสูตรเป็นคำสอนสำคัญที่พระพุทธเจ้าทรงแสดงไว้เพื่อชี้ทางแห่งการละเว้นบาปกรรมและเจริญพรหมจรรย์อย่างแท้จริง เป้าหมายหลักของพรหมจริยสูตรคือการสังวรและละคลายความกำหนัดเพื่อลดกิเลสที่เป็นต้นเหตุของทุกข์ในชีวิตมนุษย์ ซึ่งในยุคปัจจุบัน การเข้าใจพรหมจริยสูตรยังช่วยให้เราสามารถนำมาใช้พัฒนาตนเองได้อย่างครบถ้วน การประพฤติพรหมจรรย์ไม่ได้หมายถึงแค่การละเว้นจากกามารมณ์ หรือการบวชเป็นพระสงฆ์เท่านั้น แต่รวมถึงการทำให้กายใจบริสุทธิ์ ด้วยการตั้งใจฝึกฝนพัฒนาตนใน 4 ด้าน ได้แก่ พัฒนากาย เป็นการรู้จักประมาณในการกิน การดูแลสุขภาพและออกกำลังกายให้เกิดความสมดุล พัฒนาศีล คือการรักษาวินัยและไม่ทำผิดศีล เพื่อไม่ให้เป็นอันตรายต่อตนเองและผู้อื่น ด้านพัฒนาจิต คือการฝึกให้จิตใจสงบ ว่างจากความคิดฟุ้งซ่านและควบคุมอารมณ์ได้ดีขึ้น รวมถึงฝึกฝืนความรู้สึกที่ไม่เป็นประโยชน์เพื่อลดความว้าวุ่นใจ และสุดท้ายคือพัฒนาปัญญา ที่เสริมสร้างความรู้ ความเข้าใจ วิเคราะห์และพิจารณาข้อมูลต่างๆ ด้วยทัศนคติเชิงบวก เพื่อการเรียนรู้และเติบโตทางจิตวิญญาณ สิ่งสำคัญในการเจริญพรหมจรรย์ตามพรหมจริยสูตรคือการปลูกฝัง "สัมมาสติ" หรือการมีสติรู้เท่าทันในปัจจุบันขณะ การรู้ตัวอยู่เสมอว่าสิ่งใดควรทำ-ไม่ควรทำ การตีงนิ่งจิตใจให้มั่นคง และไม่ถูกความอยากหรือความโกรธครอบงำ เป็นพื้นฐานเบื้องต้นที่ช่วยให้เราก้าวหน้าสู่ชีวิตที่บริสุทธิ์และเป็นพุทธะในชีวิตประจำวัน ณ จุดนี้ขอเน้นว่า การเป็นพุทธะไม่จำเป็นต้องสวมใส่ผ้าบวชหรือขึ้นอยู่กับพิธีกรรมเพียงอย่างเดียว แต่หมายถึงการมีจิตใจรู้แจ้ง ตื่นรู้ และเบิกบานในธรรมะที่ถูกต้อง พร้อมการใช้ชีวิตอย่างมีศักยภาพที่แท้จริง นอกจากนี้ ในยุคปัจจุบัน ยังพึงระวังด้วยว่า พระภิกษุบางรูปที่อ้างความศักดิ์สิทธิ์หรือพลังพิเศษเพื่อหาประโยชน์ส่วนตัว เช่น การขายขลัง หรือหลอกลวงให้ร่ำรวย ด้วยการสรรเสริญตัวเองและชักจูงศิษย์ไปสู่ลัทธิที่ผิดกฎหมายและผิดหลักธรรมแท้ ซึ่งตรงกันข้ามกับพรหมจริยสูตรที่แท้จริง โดยสรุป การประพฤติพรหมจริย์ด้วยสติและปัญญาคือหนทางที่นำไปสู่การละความกำหนัด ปลดปล่อยจากทุกข์ และนำไปสู่ความสุขอย่างแท้จริงตามคำสอนของพระพุทธเจ้า ซึ่งทุกคนสามารถฝึกฝนได้ในชีวิตประจำวัน แม้ไม่ต้องละโลกียสมบัติหรือลาสิกขา แต่อาศัยการรู้เท่าทันและพัฒนาตนเองอย่างครบถ้วนตามหลักพรหมจริยสูตรนี้ ทั้งนี้ อ้างอิงเนื้อหาจากพรหมจริยสูตรที่ระบุว่าพระพุทธเจ้าประพฤติพรหมจรรย์ไม่เพื่อประโยชน์ลวงหรืออวดอ้างใดๆ แต่ทรงประสงค์เพื่อสังวรและดับกิเลสตามความจริง ด้วยเหตุนี้ การใช้ชีวิตแบบมีสัมมาสติและมีจิตใจรู้แจ้งจึงเป็นวิถีธรรมที่แท้จริงที่จะพาเราสู่ความสุขนิรันดร์อย่างไม่ต้องหลงทาง
