Dealing with hair shrinkage in 3C/4A curl types, especially in young children, can be quite a challenge. From personal experience, deep conditioning plays a vital role in keeping curls healthy, hydrated, and more manageable. When I deep condition my 5-year-old's hair, who has beautiful 3c/4a curls, I notice the texture becomes softer, curls are more defined, and shrinkage is reduced significantly. One key tip is to use a rich, moisturizing deep conditioner that helps to restore and seal hydration. Because curls tend to be drier, regular deep conditioning treatments help combat dryness and breakage. Applying the conditioner generously, covering all strands, and letting it sit under a heat cap or warm towel enhances absorption and effectiveness. Since curls often shrink after washing or conditioning, it's important to be gentle when detangling to avoid disrupting the curl pattern. I use a wide-tooth comb or my fingers to detangle while the conditioner is still in, which helps minimize hair loss and keeps curls intact. Additionally, reducing the frequency of washing can help maintain natural oils and moisture balance, making curls less prone to excessive shrinkage. Leaving-in curl creams or oils after conditioning also help to lock in moisture and elongate the curls, so they don’t feel as tight or compact. Remember, each head of curls is unique, and some days your curls may shrink more than others depending on factors like humidity and hair health. Patience and consistency with a moisturizing regimen are key to managing shrinkage and keeping those 3C/4A curls vibrant and flourishing.

Let’s talk shrinkage!✨
I prevent shrinkage by twisting my hair when it’s semi dry. Example: I wash and condition my hair, section it and put big twists in my hair overnight. The next day, my hair is partially dry, little damp, I twist my hair for styling (referring to picture 2). I take my twists out, separate my curls,

Your hair isn’t short. It’s coiled. Type 4 hair can shrink up to 50–75%. The tighter the curl pattern, the more dramatic the shrinkage. Shrinkage is not lack of growth. It’s elasticity. If your strands stretch and bounce back, that’s strength. That’s moisture. That’s healthy hair.

Shrinkage isn’t the enemy. Damage is. If your coils shrink, that means they’re elastic. If they stretch and return, that’s healthy hair. The tighter the curl, the more it shrinks. Stop comparing your natural shrinkage to stretched styles online. Shrinkage is proof of moisture. Pr

Trying & Rating Styles On My Twisted Locs
The only reason I don't like the two strand twists is because they make my hair look a lot shorter & create a lot of shrinkage, they are pretty and I get them because despite the shrinkage it makes me retwist last longer and stay fresh. If I don't style with the retwist, it will last MA
