Friendly science reminder: coconut oil may have antimicrobial properties, but your vagina is not a dirty kitchen counter that needs disinfecting. The vagina has a microbiome, which is basically a tiny protective neighborhood of good bacteria. One of the main good bacteria is lactobacillus, and it helps keep the vaginal pH acidic. That acidic pH is part of what helps protect you from BV, yeast overgrowth, irritation, and odor. If anything try boric acid to reset your PH if you need to. So when someone says coconut oil “kills bacteria,” that is not automatically a flex. Yeah it’s killing the bad, but you’re going in like a tiny antibacterial SWAT team wiping out the good bacteria too. Also, smell does not always mean “dirty.” Vaginal odor can come from sweat, hormones, sex, semen changing the pH, BV, yeast, or other infections. Coconut oil cannot tell the difference. And please remember, coconut oil is oil based, so it can weaken latex condoms and make them more likely to break. That is not the kind of plot twist anybody asked for. Moral of the story: coconut oil is cute for hair, skin, and maybe cooking, but the vagina is a self cleaning ecosystem. If you need lube, use a water based or silicone based lubricant made for that area. If you have itching, burning, unusual discharge, strong odor, or pain, get checked instead of letting social media turn your coochie into a science fair project.

hey! spicy educator here! just want to add on. there lots of great benefits to coconut oil down there but theres a few things to note too: - Go for organic, unrefined, and unscented 🥥 oil. if you can, go for something thats not hydrogenated at all. - if you are prone to breakouts on ya bits, use a fractionated 🥥 oil. its less likely to clog pores. - 🥥 oil *can* kill certain strains of candida (yeast) infections, but it cant kill bacterial vaginosis (bv). it can actually make bv much worse (epecially if its an old jar yourve had for a bit - bacteria can build up in it) A lot of ppl mix up the two infections, so if you aren't sure talk to your gyno. - 🥥 oil can and will degrade latex and soft toy materials. just giving folx a heads up on that one ♡
