Top 3 Reasons I wouldn’t NOT go back on BC 🤰

Heyyy My name is Mia. I have been on Birth Control, specifically Nexplanon, for about 7 months now.

I love my birth control and am very happy I made the decision to get the implant instead of the pill b/c it assures that I won’t get pregnant anytime soon, It is worry free, and it’s only for 3 years.

BUT, these things have been issues I have struggled with since being on Birth Control and makes me really consider if I would do it again.

1. I gained a decent amount of weight. About 15-20lbs of Weights that I am not super happy with. I went from being an athlete who was 115lbs to now averaging 135. Now it isn’t terrible, but it shot my confidence wayy down. My clothes don’t fit anymore and I feel so out of place when wearing clothes that in the past would have made me feel like a badass 😙

2. My skin went crazy after I went on BC. I have never had terrible acne to begin with, but once I was on BC I had to redo my entire routine for my skin and hair.

3. My mental health was impacted a lot. Now I have prior mental health issues that also impacted this, but it sometimes really pushed it over the edge especially during the times I was suppose to get my period. I would always feel so empty and lost like I was missing something and would breakdown completely. It really does take a toll on you and your everyday life.

With that said though I also appreciate my BC so much as it has done its job in preventing pregnancy!!

WOOP WOOP 🙌 And I would recommend nexplanon to anyone who is considering BC and doesn’t know which one to do. I find it really helpful and isn’t a hassle at all and also gets the job done. But again I don’t know if I will get it again after this one is done.

Be blessed babe 😚 MWAH

... Read moreHey everyone! Reading about the struggles with Nexplanon really resonated with me, especially the part about mental health. It's so important to talk about these experiences openly, because while birth control can be incredibly effective, the side effects can sometimes catch you off guard. Let's delve a bit deeper into some of the points raised and share some insights that might help. First, regarding mental health, it's a huge one. Many people, myself included, have noticed shifts in mood or increased anxiety/depression while on hormonal birth control. It's not just 'all in your head' – hormones play a significant role in our brain chemistry. If you're feeling empty, lost, or experiencing breakdowns, please know you're not alone. What helped me was tracking my moods daily (there are great apps for this!) and noticing patterns. This data was invaluable when discussing my concerns with my doctor. Sometimes, switching to a different type of birth control or exploring non-hormonal options can make a world of difference. Don't hesitate to seek support from a therapist or counselor if your mental health struggles feel overwhelming; they can provide coping strategies and professional guidance. Then there's the weight gain. It's incredibly frustrating when your body changes in ways you don't expect or want, especially when you've been active. The article mentions a 15-20lb gain, which can really impact confidence. While some studies are mixed on birth control directly causing weight gain, hormonal fluctuations can affect metabolism, appetite, and fluid retention. What can you do? Focus on nutrient-dense foods, stay hydrated, and find an exercise routine you genuinely enjoy. It's not about punishing your body, but nurturing it. Discussing this with your doctor is key, as they might suggest dietary adjustments or evaluate other potential causes. Remember that your worth isn't tied to a number on a scale! Lastly, skin changes are another common side effect. Going from clear skin to battling acne can feel like a setback, as mentioned in the original post. Hormonal birth control can sometimes affect sebum production, leading to breakouts. My personal journey involved a lot of trial and error with skincare! I found success by simplifying my routine, focusing on gentle cleansers, non-comedogenic moisturizers, and incorporating ingredients like salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide cautiously. Consulting a dermatologist can be incredibly helpful for personalized advice, as they can assess your skin type and recommend targeted treatments. Sometimes, it's about finding the right balance for your body's new hormonal landscape. Ultimately, deciding whether to continue with a specific birth control method is a deeply personal choice. It’s about weighing the benefits against the side effects and how they impact your overall quality of life. Don't be afraid to advocate for yourself, ask your healthcare provider questions, and explore all your options. Your body, your choice, and your well-being come first!

A group of diverse dogs on artificial grass, illustrating the title "Dog breeds I would NOT recommend if you want a dog that does well in social/group setting with other dogs," based on 9+ years of dog daycare/boarding experience.
Three small dogs on a dog bed, accompanying text explaining why intact male dogs are often unsuccessful in group play after 6-8 months due to dominance, hyper fixation, mounting, marking, and aggressive behaviors.
A French Bulldog stands in a blue kiddie pool, with text describing them as major bullies, pushy, prone to breathing issues due to being brachycephalic, and easily overheating, requiring frequent breaks.
