✨How to Remove a Hex – Black Southern Hoodoo Style

Listen baby, if you feel heavy all the time, like somethin’ stickin’ to your spirit… like luck turnin’ backwards, money dryin’ up, bad dreams or folks actin’ funny , you might be hexed. But don’t fret, ’cause we got the old ways.

Here’s how our elders and ancestors handled it. Straight from the Black South with love and power:

🧼 Step 1: Spiritual Bath (Uncrossing + Cleansing)

You’ll need:

• 🧂Handful of kosher salt or Epsom salt

• 🍋Juice from 1 lemon (or Florida Water)

• 🌿Handful of fresh basil

• 🕯️White candle

• 🪞Small mirror (optional)

How to Do It:

1. Brew the basil in hot water like tea. Let it steep.

2. Add basil water, lemon juice, and salt into your bath.

3. Light the white candle and say:

“Every curse, every hex, I return to sender. I walk clean, I walk free, I walk covered.”

4. Wash from head to toe. Air dry if you can.

TIP: Pour the last of the bathwater over your head outside or down the drain while saying, “Take it all with you.”

🔥 Step 2: Floor Wash for Your Home

You’ll need:

• Florida Water

• Pine-Sol (yes, the OG lemon or pine one)

• 🌿Rue or rosemary (or both)

• A bucket of hot water

How to Do It:

1. Add a splash of Florida Water + a capful of Pine-Sol + herbs to the hot water.

2. Mop from the back of your home to the front door.

3. Throw that mop water toward the street or into the yard — AWAY from your house.

Say: “Ain’t nothin’ evil living here.”

🕯️ Step 3: Burn Off the Hex

You’ll need:

• 🔥Black candle

• 🔥White candle

• Cayenne pepper or red brick dust

• A piece of brown paper bag

• Pen

How to Do It:

1. Write your full name and “remove all crossed conditions” on the paper.

2. Place it under the black candle (dressed with cayenne or brick dust).

3. Light the black candle FIRST to burn away the mess. Let it burn 7 minutes a day for 3 days.

4. Then light the white candle to restore peace.

Say: “This light brings back my peace. No evil formed will prosper.”

💨 Final Step: Smoke Cleanse Yourself

You’ll need:

• 🔥Burning rosemary, camphor, or frankincense

• A Bible or your root book open to Psalm 37 or 91

How to Do It:

• Walk through the smoke and say aloud:

“Cover me, cleanse me, and clear me. No weapon, no wickedness, no watching eyes.”

• Repeat for 3 days at dawn or sunset.

🚫 BONUS: Protection Afterward

Mix a little jar:

• 🧂Black salt

• 🔥Red brick dust

• 🌿Crushed eggshell (Cascarilla)

• A rusty nail or pin

Place it behind your front door or bury it at the edge of your property line.

🎭 If you believe somebody SENT it — name ‘em out loud during the bath or candle work. Let the ancestors and spirits know who to return it to.

🧓🏾 Remember what Big Mama said:

“If they send it, they better know how to take it back.”

... Read moreSometimes, even after you've done the initial work, that lingering feeling of negativity can try to creep back in, or you might just want to strengthen your spiritual defenses. What I've learned from my elders is that hex removal and spiritual cleansing isn't always a one-and-done deal; it's an ongoing journey of protecting your energy and maintaining your spiritual hygiene. Beyond the potent rituals mentioned, I often find myself reflecting on the power of intent and consistency. When you're performing a spiritual bath, for instance, don't just go through the motions. Really feel the water washing away all that spiritual grime. Visualize the burdens lifting, flowing off you and never returning. The salt isn't just for physical cleansing; in Hoodoo, it's a powerful tool for purification and banishing. Lemon slices or Florida Water aren't just scents; they're believed to cut through negative ties and bring clarity. And basil? That's pure blessing and protection right there. Using fresh basil, I really imagine good fortune and calm flowing into my life. For the floor wash, I always make sure to put my heart into it. As I mop from back to front, I don't just see dirt disappearing, but every argument, every ill-wish, every heavy energy being swept out the door. And tossing that water away from your home? That's a powerful declaration: 'You ain't welcome here anymore!' I've even added a few drops of holy water or moon water to my floor washes for an extra layer of blessing, depending on what feels right for the situation. It’s all about personalizing the work to make it truly yours. After a significant REMOVAL OF HEX ritual, I find it incredibly important to 'seal' my space and my aura. This isn't just about setting out a protection jar. I often use my favorite protection oil (homemade with olive oil, rue, and a tiny piece of iron) to anoint my doorways, windows, and even my pulse points. Another simple but effective practice is saying affirmations daily. Something like, 'I am divinely protected. Only love and light can enter my space.' Repeating these, especially after waking and before bed, truly shifts your energetic field. And don't forget the power of ancestral connection. Before any big work, I light a white candle for my ancestors and simply speak to them, asking for their guidance and protection. They are our strongest allies in this work. This isn't just a spell; it's a conversation with the spirits who walked before us, sharing their wisdom and strength. Trust your intuition, listen to the whispers, and know that you are never alone in reclaiming your peace and power.
