Last night I saw the sequel to the iconic 2006 hit, The Devil Wears Prada! Right off the bat, the first one is obviously better. However I think they did a really great job at incorporating modern day elements while still keeping the 2000s chick flick feel! Miranda, Andy and the crew are facing the same challenges as a lot of others in 2026 media; layoffs, budget cuts, new tech, etc.
However, they did keep all the iconic looks, a lot of of the same soundtrack from the original movie, and just the 2000s feel!
The plot, however, was slightly lacking, there were a lot of points in the film, where I was confused as to what was going on, what was the problem, what exactly were they trying to fix? And I was slightly dissatisfied at the end when they had a great opportunity to add in an iconic line from the first movie and they just didn’t. Not going to spoil what it is, but if you’ve seen the movie, you can probably guess.
Overall, I thought it was a great movie, and for a sequel 20 years later, I thought it was very well done

What really stood out to me was how the film injected contemporary issues like layoffs, budget cuts, and evolving technology into the fashion media setting, making it relevant to today's fast-paced world. It’s uncommon for sequels released two decades later to retain the essence of the original while updating the context effectively.
One aspect I particularly appreciated was the continued use of iconic looks and soundtracks from the original film, which created a comforting bridge between the two stories. It reinforced familiar emotions and memories, helping longtime fans feel connected despite the new elements. However, I did feel some moments in the plot lacked clarity, leaving me guessing about the central conflict and character motivations. Sequels often struggle to balance paying tribute and innovating, and this film seemed to lean a bit too much on style over substance.
I also couldn’t help but notice the missed chance to deliver a memorable line from the first movie, something that could have anchored the sequel emotionally. These small touches are essential in sequels to deepen the connection and honor what made the original a cultural phenomenon.
Overall, though, the movie scores a solid 7/10 in my book. It’s a testament to the filmmakers’ efforts that even with some minor shortcomings, The Devil Wears Prada 2 manages to offer an enjoyable experience that feels both fresh and nostalgically familiar. For fans of fashion-forward chick flicks and character-driven stories dealing with workplace dynamics under pressure, this film is a must-watch. I would encourage viewers to go in expecting some twists on the original formula and an updated look at media challenges in 2026, making it a relevant and engaging sequel in today’s entertainment landscape.
