Michelin-approved Japanese Szechwan cuisine

We tried the Michelin approved mapo tofu by Chef Kentaro Chen and his unique Szechwan cuisine with a Japanese twist at Chen's Kitchen .

🌟 Chen’s Shumai $9.90

🌟 White Mapo Tofu $28.90

🌟 Dong Po Rou $23.90

⭐️ Kurozu Kurobuta $22.90

🌟 Szechwan Spiced Chahan with Sakura Shrimp $13.90

🌟 Double Boiled Pear $6.90

🌟 Caramelised Mala Pecan Ice Cream $4.80

The highlight of the meal was the seafood based white mapo tofu, featuring Hokkaido scallops, prawns, and cashew nuts in a lightly spicy thickened broth, so good with a simple bowl of steamed rice! Another standout was the 8 hour slow braised pork belly, infused with Japanese soy umami sauce and served on a bed of spinach. We also loved the garlicky spicy fried rice, packed with generous amounts of sakura shrimp, umami goodness in every bite!

We ended our meal with a nourishing chilled dessert, paired with red dates, snow fungus, and 南北杏. And surprisingly, the special collaboration ice cream with @DenzyGelato worked! Made with pecans and Chen’s homemade chili oil, it was a unique and satisfying finish.

Don’t forget to try their specialty drinks at $6.50. I personally enjoyed the Chen’s Ginger Ale, but the Sparkling Ume and Sparkling Calamansi are also perfect for cooling down the heat and spice from the meal!

They also offer a weekday lunch set promo from Monday to Friday, 11am to 5pm (excluding PH). Simply top up $5 for an appetizer and drink:

🍝 Mapo Mien $12.90

🌟 Szechwan Soy Puffs +$1.20

🥤 Sencha Cold Brew

It was a comforting meal full of bold flavours and punch. Are you up for the heat challenge?

... Read moreIf you're curious about what makes Chen’s Kitchen truly stand out, I highly recommend trying their weekday lunch set promo. For just a little extra, you can add an appetizer and a refreshing drink, which makes it perfect for a fulfilling midday meal. The Mapo Mien is a comforting dish that feels like a warm embrace, while the Szechwan Soy Puffs add a delightful textural contrast. Another great tip is to balance the heat from their signature Szechwan spices with their specialty drinks. Personally, the Chen’s Ginger Ale was my go-to choice because it helped cool down the spicy sensation beautifully. But the Sparkling Ume and Sparkling Calamansi also offer a refreshing twist that pairs wonderfully with the richness of the dishes. Don’t miss the dessert collaboration with Denzy Gelato – the caramelised mala pecan ice cream is surprisingly satisfying, blending the nuttiness of pecans with a spicy homemade chili oil kick, making for a unique finish to your meal. When you visit, be sure to explore the variety beyond just mapo tofu. The Dong Po Rou slow-braised pork belly, infused with Japanese soy umami sauce, is a must-try for pork lovers. The integration of Japanese and Szechwan flavors here showcases Chen’s creativity and mastery. If you’re visiting Singapore’s Orchard Road area, Chen’s Kitchen located at Paragon is easily accessible via Orchard or Somerset MRT stations, making it a convenient spot for food lovers craving Michelin-starred Japanese-Szechwan fusion cuisine.
