Not fair!

My manager even brushed off my concerns, saying 'We can discuss this later,' which, let's be real, usually means 'never,' leaving me feeling frustrated and unheard. So, what can we, as employees, do when faced with such a glaring wage gap and a seemingly dismissive management? First, I've learned it's crucial to document everything. Keep a meticulous record of your job duties, your accomplishments, any extra responsibilities you've taken on, and certainly any conversations you have about pay or performance reviews. This paper trail can be incredibly powerful later on. Second, do your research! Look up average wages for similar positions in your area – specifically for experienced or senior employees, not just entry-level. Websites like Glassdoor, Indeed, or even local job postings can be really helpful. Knowing your market value gives you significant leverage and confidence. When you do approach your manager or HR again, frame it as a professional discussion about your value and contributions to the company, rather than just complaining about the new hire's wage. Highlight your experience, your ability to train new team members (like the one making more than you!), and how you consistently contribute to the team's success and the company's bottom line. Be prepared with specific examples. Ask for a raise that not only brings you closer to what the new hire is making but also reflects your current market value and years of dedicated experience. If they continue to be dismissive or refuse to offer a fair adjustment, sometimes the unfortunate truth is that the only option is to look for opportunities elsewhere. It’s a tough decision, but sometimes a new employer is the only way to secure the fair pay you truly deserve. Remember, your loyalty should be rewarded, not taken for granted!
