💍 Wedding Jewelry Prep: Mikimoto Pearls

I went to Japan with a goal which is to purchase Akoya pearls to match my gown on my wedding day.

My dress is kinda bling with lace so I thought the usuals Cartiers or my VCA red alhambra wouldn’t match. My fiancé proposed Mikimoto and I instantly fell in love for it! (talk about his regrets 😜).

Talk about the price💰… Actually the one I envisioned was to wear a full pearl necklace, but the price is steep at $13.2K in Singapore and even getting it in Japan would’ve set me back ~$10K after tax refund. I also thought that I wouldn’t use much of it since it is too grand and mature for my everyday fit! So I snooped around for a pendant instead and I managed to get a set along with the earrings! This after tax refund cost me ~¥320K

It comes with small diamond setting and looks dainty and perfect for everyday wear.

Why Mikimoto? It is the oldest brand of cultured pearls in the world and only uses top 5% of the harvested pearls that meet AAA grade for their jewelries.

✨ There are also other brands that carries Akoya pearls— Pearly Lustre (SG), WSP (JP) which offers top quality pearls too at a fraction of the price from Mikimoto.

... Read moreWhen considering Akoya pearls for your wedding, packaging plays a surprisingly important role, especially for gifting and presentation. Mikimoto, known for its elegant and luxurious packaging, enhances the overall experience, making the jewelry feel truly special upon unboxing. Personally, I found that the classic cream-colored box with the brand’s subtle logo adds a timeless charm that complements the sophistication of their pearls. If you're weighing Akoya pearls versus Mikimoto specifically, it's helpful to know that Mikimoto only uses the highest quality top 5% pearls graded AAA, which ensures exceptional luster and consistency. While other brands may offer Akoya pearls at a lower price, the reliability and craftsmanship of Mikimoto justify the investment, especially for a wedding occasion. When I purchased my Mikimoto pendant and earrings set in Japan, the attention to detail in both the pearls and the packaging impressed me. It felt like more than just jewelry—it was an heirloom piece. For those who want something less grand than a full necklace, their smaller pieces with delicate diamond accents are perfect for day-to-day wear without losing that bridal glow. Considering all these points helped me make an informed choice that balanced elegance, practicality, and sentiment for a once-in-a-lifetime event.

📍 Timory DIY Masai
