Fatherhood only noticed when something goes bad?

6/8 Edited to

... Read moreAs a dad, I've often found myself pondering the original question: 'Fatherhood only noticed when something goes bad?' It's a sentiment that resonates deeply with me, and I'm sure with many other fathers out there. There are countless moments of quiet support, early morning wake-ups, late-night worries, and sacrifices that often go unacknowledged. Yet, the moment a child misbehaves or a household problem arises, it sometimes feels like the first question is, 'Where was Dad?' or 'Why did Dad let that happen?' It's a tough pill to swallow when you’re pouring your heart into being a dad, and your contributions only seem to surface when there's an issue to address. This feeling of being underappreciated or, even worse, unfairly blamed, can be isolating. We celebrate mothers for their nurturing roles, and rightly so, but the unique challenges and triumphs of fatherhood sometimes get lost in the shuffle. I've personally wrestled with the 'WHY ALWAYS BLAME DAD?!' thought more times than I can count. It's not about seeking constant praise, but a genuine desire for our consistent presence and efforts to be seen and valued, not just highlighted during times of crisis or conflict. Over time, I've learned that part of finding peace after the pain of these feelings is redefining what recognition means to me. It's not always about external validation. Sometimes, it's about the quiet pride in seeing your child grow, the small victories, and the unbreakable bond you share. It's about learning to FREE YOU from the burden of others' expectations and focusing on the father you want to be. I've realized that for my own mental well-being, I needed to learn to FORGIVE HER – not just in terms of a partner, but also in forgiving the societal narratives that sometimes diminish a father's role. So, how do we navigate this? I think open communication with partners is key. Expressing these feelings, not as complaints, but as a desire for shared understanding, can make a huge difference. Also, connecting with other fathers who share similar experiences can be incredibly validating. Knowing you're not alone in feeling this way can be a huge relief. We're all in this journey of being a dad together, striving to be the best we can be, even when it feels like we're only noticed when a problem needs fixing. Ultimately, fatherhood is a profound and rewarding journey. While the moments of blame or feeling unnoticed can sting, focusing on the love, the connection, and the positive impact we have on our children's lives is what truly matters. Let's continue to support each other in building stronger, more appreciated roles as fathers, finding our own versions of peace and joy in this incredible adventure.

Your Presence Mattered More Than You Knew
One of the most interesting things about influence is that the people creating it often don’t realize how much of it they’re creating. A father may remember the bills. The responsibilities. The long days. The sacrifices. The pressure. But the child often remembers something differ

Fatherhood
The gym is the only place my body is tired enough to let my mind wander. Some sets I’m locked in. Other sets I’m somewhere else—back in moments that don’t happen every day anymore. The weights keep me present, but my thoughts drift to them. The laughs. The workouts. The time that went too fast.
