my honest opinion on wrist rests ðŸ’
Because I work at my desk for long hours at a time, I eventually developed carpal tunnel. I experienced a lot of wrist pain and eventually gave in to buying a wrist rest.
Here are my honest thoughts after using it:
It provides temporary relief and does elevate your wrists, but it did not completely stop the wrist pain. Overall, I don't think that it has much of an ergonomic effect.
Wrist rests are increasingly popular among those working long hours at desks, especially for individuals experiencing wrist pain or conditions like carpal tunnel syndrome. These devices are marketed to improve wrist posture and reduce strain, but their effectiveness varies widely among users. Many users report that while wrist rests can provide temporary relief by elevating the wrists and changing the angle of the hands relative to the keyboard, they may not significantly alleviate pain for long-term use. It's not uncommon for users to experience the same discomfort even when using these supports. In fact, some argue that wrist rests can create a false sense of security, leading users to overlook more effective ergonomic adjustments, like proper chair height and keyboard positioning. Research suggests that the best way to combat wrist pain is through a comprehensive ergonomic setup. This includes a chair that supports lower back alignment, an adjustable desk, and regular breaks to stretch and reposition oneself. For those still finding that wrist pain impacts their productivity, considering professional ergonomic assessments could provide tailored solutions. Ultimately, for many, wrist rests may serve more as a temporary fix or aesthetic addition to the workspace rather than a definitive solution to ergonomic needs. Readers are encouraged to explore various options and listen to their bodies, making changes as necessary to create a supportive workspace customized to their unique requirements.

I think it’s more a preventative measure. Maybe try using it alongside those arthritis gloves. I’m not too sure what they’re called but ik my mom uses them and they help. And maybe try one that’s a little taller so that it lifts your wrists more?
