No Bison or Island Foxes are getting in between me and my 6 step skincare routine #hiking #camping #TransCatalinaTrail #backpacking #thruhiking
Hiking and camping, especially on challenging trails like the Trans Catalina Trail, demand not only physical endurance but also careful attention to skincare. When you're out in the backcountry, exposure to sun, wind, dust, and fluctuating temperatures can take a toll on your skin. That's why having a reliable skincare routine—even a 6-step one—is vital for maintaining skin health and comfort during outdoor adventures. From my own experience hiking and backpacking, I found that a routine focusing on cleansing, exfoliation, hydration, protection, and repair made a remarkable difference. Starting with a gentle cleanser to remove sweat, dirt, and sunscreen residue prevents clogged pores. Follow this by a mild exfoliation to keep dead skin from building up, which can happen quickly in dusty environments. Hydrating your skin with a nourishing moisturizer is essential, especially after exposure to the dry air or sun. Incorporating products with antioxidants or soothing ingredients can counteract environmental damage. Applying a good broad-spectrum sunscreen before heading out, and reapplying during the day, protects the skin from harmful UV rays. In the evening, a replenishing serum or overnight mask can support skin repair while you rest. Don't forget about lip and eye care, which often get neglected but are vulnerable to the elements too. I personally carry compact, travel-sized skincare essentials in my backpack to ensure I stay consistent with my routine. Through this approach, even amidst encounters with wildlife like bison or island foxes, maintaining skin health is completely achievable. This skincare system not only keeps you feeling refreshed but also enhances your overall hiking experience on the Trans Catalina Trail and beyond.
