10 books before the end

These are the 10 books I want to read before the end of the year. I’ll probably read more because I already have some on loan on Libby but these are the ones I either find more challenging or have been putting off for a while because they’re not in my comfort genres.

Have you read any of these? Did you enjoy them? Let me know in the comments!

... Read moreIf you’re looking to broaden your reading horizons and take on some literary challenges, this list of 10 books offers a diverse mix that steps outside comfortable genres. Among these are intriguing titles like "Frankenstein," a timeless gothic novel by Mary Shelley, and "Cleopatra," likely a historical biographical work exploring the life of the iconic Egyptian queen. These classics provide rich storytelling while inviting readers to explore different historical and thematic depths. Moving beyond classics, the list includes "The Parable of the Sower" which delivers a compelling dystopian narrative about resilience and adaptation in uncertain futures. Additionally, contemporary works like those by R.F. Kuang highlight modern storytelling with complex themes and cultural insights. The mention of "Vampires of El Norte" suggests a blend of supernatural with cultural folklore, expanding interests into genre fiction. Interesting is the presence of titles like "The Kamogawa Food Detectives," which might combine elements of mystery with culinary arts, adding unique flavor to the reading mix. "Has Roots" and titles by Amal El-Mohtar are known for vivid, poetic narratives which challenge readers to think deeply about identity and imagination. When tackling books outside your usual preferences or comfort zone, consider taking notes or joining book discussions online—many communities on platforms like BookTok or Goodreads can amplify your appreciation and understanding. Using library apps like Libby can help access these books conveniently without purchasing, making it easier to explore a variety of genres. Committing to reading such a diversified list can not only enhance your literary knowledge but also develop critical thinking and empathy as you explore different cultures, time periods, and worlds. Whether you pick up "Frankenstein" for its enduring themes of creation and consequence or dive into contemporary fantasy and science fiction, these books are sure to leave a lasting impact before the year closes. Happy reading!
