Thanks, January // A few reflections

Implement Iteratively.

I rarely find immense joy in a fresh page of a new planner like others do. I find New Year’s Resolutions to be an ineffective mindset because we rely on calendar dates as arbitrary benchmarks for unsustainable goals.

But that’s just me…

Some of you are incredible at jumping into new rhythms, habits, and goals. A fresh start to the year is invigorating to you. And to that I say, cheers!

On the flip side, I need to trick my mind and habit stack. I need a soft launch with a promise to myself that I don’t need to do it all in 30 days. I can implement iteratively.

So far, this is what I’ve proudly accomplished:

+ I created a more for myself.

My flex goal is to grow this account to 10K followers (I like the challenge) by sharing faith-inspired encouragement and insight for creatives. It’s fun creating content for others, but I’ve enjoyed creating for myself again. I want to do more experimenting this year as well. Say hello to my new friend, the DJI Osmo Pocket 3.

+ I implemented more wellness rhythms.

My physical health overall has suffered since my hip surgery. I now live with chronic pain and it sucks. I know I need to move my body but moving my body causes extreme discomfort. What can I do though? Small things…

I bought myself an Apple Watch and have set a small goal of riding a stationary bike for 20 minutes or walk for 10. I picked up a Red Light + NIR Light lamp. The benefits are incredible based on my research. I also have been intentionally hydrating with N-2 Water which replenishes minerals our body needs like calcium and magnesium (modern water processing removes these during filtration).

+ I put my phone down a bit more this month.

January was a giant cortisol spike, disturbing and disruptive for so many — political chaos, fires, tragedies, loss. As much as I like to be informed, I don’t always need to ingest. I’m trying to slow down and hurry less. And I’m trying my best to live in more silent spaces (with an occasional Green Noise or Brown Noise playlist).

+ I am setting up systems to grow my business.

More to come.

Overall, I haven’t done it all… but I’ve done something. Here’s to more somethings in February.

... Read moreAs we transition into a new year, many individuals reflect on their experiences and set intentions for the months ahead. January often serves as a catalyst for change, prompting us to consider our habits and mindset. Implementing small, manageable changes can significantly impact our well-being. One effective strategy is to adopt a more iterative approach to personal development, where goals are broken down into achievable steps. This way, individuals can feel less overwhelmed and more motivated. Participating in small wellness routines, whether through physical activity, mindfulness practices, or engaging in creative pursuits, encourages a balanced lifestyle. Tools like fitness trackers or innovative health gadgets can aid in maintaining focus and tracking progress. For example, an Apple Watch can help monitor movement, while resources aimed at hydration can educate individuals on the importance of hydration for overall health. January can be a challenging month, often marked by environmental stressors such as political upheaval or community tragedies. It’s essential to practice self-care during such times, which may include reducing screen time and seeking moments of peace. Engaging in practices like ambient noise or scheduled breaks from information can cultivate a healthier mental space. Moreover, as the month unfolds, it’s vital to focus on setting up systems that foster business growth or personal creative projects. Networking, sharing insights, and connecting with like-minded individuals online can create a supportive environment for personal and professional growth. In essence, reflecting on January can inspire continued progression throughout the year, highlighting the significance of taking one step at a time and celebrating the small victories along the journey.
