As a stay-at-home mom (SAHM), mornings often come with an expectation of calm and control, but the reality for many of us is quite different. For example, serenading my child, Cole, to soothe him or start the day on a joyful note often ends with him being completely uninterested and not even looking my way. This little interaction perfectly sums up the unpredictability of parenting toddlers. Many SAHMs can relate to the concept of a 'very unrealistically calm morning.' Social media often showcases picture-perfect scenes, but these rarely capture the chaos behind the scenes. The truth is, days can be a rollercoaster of emotions, from trying desperately to maintain a serene environment to managing unexpected toddler tantrums or demands. One important lesson I’ve learned is that it's okay for mornings not to go as planned. Instead of feeling defeated, I embrace the imperfect moments as part of the journey. It helps to share these honest experiences because it removes the pressure to meet unrealistic standards that society and social media sometimes set for moms. Finding community among other SAHMs and moms in general has been invaluable. Sharing stories about the ups and downs keeps us grounded and reminds us we’re not alone. Whether it’s a failed serenade, a messy breakfast, or an entirely chaotic morning, these moments contribute to the beautiful complexity of motherhood.
