Things I Stopped Caring About as a Mom

Motherhood has a way of teaching you what actually matters.

And honestly?

A lot of the things I used to stress over… just don’t feel important to me anymore.

I used to think being a “good mom” meant:

– keeping the house spotless

– staying caught up on everything

– saying yes all the time

– doing everything myself

– looking put together every day

But trying to keep up with all of that left me exhausted.

Not peaceful.

Not present.

Just overwhelmed.

Over time, I realized something important:

My kids didn’t need a perfect mom.

They needed a calmer one.

So I started letting go of unrealistic expectations and creating gentler rhythms instead.

Simple systems.

Small resets.

More grace.

Less pressure.

And honestly?

Motherhood started feeling lighter after that.

Not because life became less messy…

but because I stopped trying to control every part of it.

That’s the heart behind The Simplest Nest 🤍

Helping moms create calm-home rhythms, realistic routines, and practical systems that support real life — not perfect life.

If you’re carrying too much right now, this is your reminder:

You do not have to do everything perfectly to be a good mom.

... Read moreFrom my experience as a mom navigating the chaos and joys of parenting, I’ve found that letting go of unrealistic expectations is a game-changer. Initially, I was tangled in the belief that a good mom had to keep a spotless house, say yes to every request, and do everything herself while always looking polished. This pursuit left me constantly exhausted and far from enjoying precious moments with my kids. What truly made a difference was focusing on what my children actually needed — a calm and present mother, not a perfect one. I began adopting slower, gentler rhythms with simple systems that allowed me space to breathe and be truly present. Instead of striving for an immaculate environment, I embraced the beauty in the messiness of life. This shift to progress over perfection freed me from pressure and created a more peaceful home atmosphere. I also learned the importance of saying no when necessary and allowing myself grace to rest or take breaks. By creating small resets throughout the day and realistic routines tailored to my family’s unique needs, each day became less stressful and more meaningful. This approach not only improved my mental health but also set a positive example for my kids about self-care and balanced living. If you’re a mom feeling overwhelmed by societal pressures or an endless to-do list, I encourage you to prioritize your peace. Motherhood isn’t about doing everything flawlessly; it’s about being there — calm, loving, and real. This mindset shift helped me reclaim joy and made motherhood feel lighter and more fulfilling. Remember, it’s okay to let go of perfection and embrace your own rhythm that supports your real life and wellbeing.
