Adding a mystery snail helped with algae control and did not bother the Bettas, showing how compatible species can enhance the ecosystem. Patience is key when caring for these fish; sometimes losses happen, like Jerry who stayed less than a year, but each experience builds knowledge. Seeing Gary live happily for over a year alongside new tank mates illustrates how understanding their needs improves their wellbeing. For anyone starting out, I'd recommend researching Betta fish behavior and tank setup, investing in a good heater, and choosing live plants to reduce stress for your fish. Monitoring water parameters consistently helps catch issues early. Remember, every Betta is unique and requires attention and love to thrive, making this hobby both challenging and deeply satisfying.
