Winter curls vs. summer curls

I didn’t notice a difference in my curls until this year… but WOW 😳

My summer curls are just BETTER.

Bigger, bouncier, more volume… they thrive in humidity.

Winter? She’s flatter, more stretched, and needs extra moisture + styling 😅

Even when I switch up my routine, the weather still makes the biggest difference.

Anyone else’s curls come alive in the summer?! ☀️👇

The key difference lies largely in humidity. In summer, the higher moisture levels in the air help curls bounce back faster, making them appear fuller and more voluminous. I often find that my natural curls absorb humidity like a sponge, enhancing their shape without much effort. Conversely, during winter months, the dry air can suck moisture right out of your curls, leaving them stretched and brittle if you’re not careful. I've learned to compensate by incorporating richer hydrating masks and leave-in conditioners into my routine. Adding oils like argan or jojoba after styling also helps seal in moisture and adds extra shine. Switching techniques seasonally has been a game changer for me. For example, I rely on styling creams or gels that provide hold without crunchiness during summer, while in winter I opt for heavier creams that nourish and protect. Also, protecting curls from harsh winter winds by covering hair or using a satin bonnet at night prevents breakage. If you notice your curls flourishing in humidity but struggling in the cold, try adjusting your hair care regimen to include intensive hydration and protection during dry months. Remember, curly hair is unique and reacts differently depending on environment, so experimenting and listening to your hair’s needs is essential. Do you notice the same seasonal curl transformation?
