‘Just don’t think about it so much.’ ‘You’ll grow out of this in no time.’ ‘This is just anxiety!’ 😭

6/21 Edited to

... Read moreFrom my own experiences, living with anxiety and conditions like emetophobia and Hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (hEDS) can be profoundly isolating, especially when others dismiss your symptoms as "just anxiety" or believe you will "grow out of it." These responses often come from a place of misunderstanding but can cause additional stress and self-doubt. One of the most frustrating parts is dealing with the physical symptoms that don’t seem to have a clear cause or are attributed to normal behaviors. For instance, constant urges to urinate despite just having gone to the bathroom can be linked to a small bladder or nerve issues, common in people with hEDS. Yet, many times, these symptoms are overlooked or minimized because they don't fit typical illness patterns. Similarly, intense physical pain—like foot pain that prevents walking or unusual nerve sensations—can severely limit daily activities. Unlike others who might push through, those of us with connective tissue disorders know that resting and pacing yourself is essential, though it often feels like we’re falling behind. Or take anxiety attacks, which are sometimes mistaken for simple nervousness but can manifest as severe chest tightness, dizziness, and difficulty breathing. Being told "this is just anxiety" doesn’t fully capture the reality or provide comfort. It's critical to acknowledge these feelings as legitimate medical issues needing proper coping strategies. Dentists advising against flossing or brushing properly due to gum recession also adds confusion when managing oral health. These complications are sometimes tied to sensitive tissues or medications, again highlighting the need for specialized care. What has helped me personally is connecting with support groups where people share similar symptoms and experiences. Understanding that my feelings and physical symptoms are valid has been empowering. Learning to advocate for myself in medical settings—persisting even when doctors are unsure—is another crucial step. If you or someone you know is facing similar challenges, remember you are not alone. Your symptoms are real, and seeking a healthcare provider familiar with complex chronic conditions can make a meaningful difference. Self-care, patience, and finding communities that understand your journey can help transform confusion and frustration into acceptance and effective management.

One of the hardest areas to target are your lower abdominals. Often times these muscles grow weak from sitting a lot and having tight hip flexors/low back. Overtime this can lead to abdominal separation and cause your organs to stick out more than usual! Yes, as women it is normal to have your
