Locs at 3 Month

2025/1/19 Edited to

... Read moreWow, time flies when you're on a locs journey! It feels like just yesterday I was getting my starter locs, and now I'm officially at the three-month stage. Tracking my growth has been an absolutely fascinating experience, and I wanted to share a deeper dive into what these initial months have looked like for my dark, curly locs. When I first started, I had so many questions about the different loc stages by month. What would my hair look like at one month? Two months? Three months? Now, having gone through it, I can share my personal insights. Month 1: The Budding Phase Begins! Right after getting my starter locs, they were neat and defined. This is often called the 'starter' or 'budding' stage. My hair was still pretty loose, and I was super careful with washing to avoid unraveling. I focused on misting my scalp and keeping my locs moisturized. The goal was simply to let them settle without too much manipulation. Month 2: Seeing Some Changes By the two-month stage, I started noticing some subtle changes. My locs weren't as 'fresh' looking, and there was a bit more frizz – which is totally normal! This is where the hair begins to intertwine and mature. I remember looking at my locs and thinking, "Okay, something is definitely happening here!" The roots were growing out, and the ends of my curly locs were starting to feel a bit denser. This phase really tests your patience, as they don't look perfectly neat, but it's a crucial part of the loc growth. Month 3: The Young Locs Stage! And now, at the three-month stage, my locs are really settling in. They feel more solid, and the frizz is less intense than it was at month two. This is often called the 'young locs' stage. I can definitely see significant loc growth compared to when I started. It’s still early, but the feeling of the locs forming is undeniable. They're not fully locked yet, but the individual strands are definitely bonding together. I've been experimenting a little with simple starter locs styles – mostly just pulling them back or letting them hang, nothing too intricate since they're still delicate. This is also when I started getting more comfortable touching them and understanding their texture. One of the biggest lessons I've learned during this 3 month loc journey is patience. There are days when you might feel like your locs aren't growing or changing fast enough, but trust the process! My best advice for anyone with 3 months starter locs is to keep them clean, moisturized, and separated. Regular retwists (but not too frequent, maybe every 4-6 weeks!) are key to maintaining their shape and encouraging them to lock. I also make sure to protect my locs at night with a satin bonnet or pillowcase to prevent frizz and lint build-up. Looking ahead, I can't wait to see how my locs evolve into the next stages. The thought of reaching the 3 year loc growth mark and beyond is so exciting! Every day is a step forward in this beautiful journey, and I’m loving every moment of tracking my progress.
