But truly diving deeper into His character has been a transformative experience for my faith journey! I recently came across a detailed list, much like the one shown in an old Bible study handout, titled 'The Attributes of God!' It expanded my understanding beyond words. This list defined attributes like Infinite, meaning boundless in every way; Holy, indicating His perfect purity and separation from sin; Long Suffering, showing His incredible patience; Wrathful, revealing His righteous anger against evil; Wise, His perfect understanding; Truthful, that He cannot lie; Righteous, always acting justly; Loving, His benevolent concern; Faithful, His unwavering commitment; Omnipotent, all-powerful; Incomprehensible, beyond full human understanding; Transcendent, existing outside and above creation; Just, always fair; Good, the source of all good; Sovereign, in ultimate control; Merciful, showing compassion; and Eternal, without beginning or end. Pondering each one really helps me grasp the enormity of who He is. One concept that deeply resonated with me is the idea of communicable attributes of God. These are qualities that, in a limited but real way, God shares with us, His creation, and empowers us to embody. For instance, while God is perfectly 'Holy,' we are called to be holy (1 Peter 1:16). He is 'Loving,' and we are commanded to love one another as He loved us (John 13:34). His 'Wisdom' and 'Righteousness' are infinite, but through the Holy Spirit, we can grow in wisdom and strive for righteousness in our lives. Understanding these attributes helps me see how I can reflect His character daily, making my faith practical and tangible. It's not about becoming God, but about becoming more like Him, which is an incredible journey of spiritual growth and reflection. Speaking of God's attributes, it's impossible not to connect them to Jesus Christ. When I reflect on the attributes of Jesus, I see a perfect mirror of God's heart. He demonstrated God's 'Omnipotence' through His miracles, His 'Love' through His ultimate sacrifice on the cross, His 'Justice' in upholding truth, and His 'Mercy' in forgiving sins and healing the sick. Jesus truly is God incarnate, embodying all these divine characteristics in human form. He is the visible image of the invisible God, making His infinite nature relatable and accessible to us. Understanding Jesus’s attributes helps solidify my faith in the entire Trinity. Thinking about queries like 'has God always existed' reminds me of His 'Eternal' nature – without beginning or end. This profound truth gives me such peace, knowing He is unchanging and will always be there, a constant anchor in a shifting world. His 'Goodness' and 'Sovereignty' beautifully tie into how 'God provides for birds' and every living creature (Matthew 6:26). If He cares for the smallest sparrow, how much more does He care for us? It's a daily, comforting reminder to trust in His faithful provision, no matter what challenges or uncertainties I face. His attributes aren't just abstract theological ideas; they're living truths that guide, comfort, and inspire me every single day.
