Hunter Call Of The Wild Great One Whitetail 🦌
Hey fellow hunters! I know the struggle is real when it comes to finding that legendary Great One Whitetail in Call of the Wild. For ages, I hunted countless whitetail deer across various reserves, but that elusive G1 always felt just out of reach. I've spent countless hours in the game, learning the patterns and quirks of these magnificent animals, especially on maps like the Yukon Valley, where Askiya Ridge holds some prime whitetail territory. My personal journey to bagging a Great One Whitetail in COTW was a mix of persistence, a little bit of luck, and a whole lot of strategic planning around their drink zones. If you're like me, you've probably heard that drink zones are key, but where exactly do you focus your efforts? And how do you tell a potential Great One from just another diamond? First, let's talk about the absolute importance of drink zones for whitetail G1 COTW hunting. Whitetail deer, especially the bigger ones, are incredibly routine. They'll almost always visit specific water sources during their designated drink times. For whitetails, this is typically between 12:00 PM and 3:00 PM game time. My advice? Scout these areas heavily during these hours. I learned to set up portable stands or tripods overlooking key bodies of water, especially those with good visibility and multiple access points for deer. On Askiya Ridge, I've had particular success focusing on the network of smaller lakes and rivers that crisscross the central and eastern parts of the map. Look for areas where the water's edge is relatively open, offering clear lines of sight. I remember one specific spot near the Askiya River where it widens into a small lake; I'd consistently find large groups of whitetail deer there. I would often start by traversing the shoreline, calling out with a whitetail deer caller every 100-150 meters, and listening intently. Using binoculars and your scope to identify target animals from a distance is crucial to avoid spooking them. Identifying a COTW Great One Whitetail is the tricky part. They don't just appear out of nowhere; you usually have to “herd manage” or accumulate kills to increase the spawn rate. When you do spot a potential G1, they often have a distinctly massive rack that stands out even from a distance. Their racks are uniquely generated and tend to be much larger and more complex than even diamond-scoring whitetails. Don't just look for a big rack; look for an unusual rack. It's hard to describe until you see it, but trust your gut. If it looks exceptionally massive, it might be your G1. When you've found your target, approach with extreme caution. The wind direction is your biggest enemy here; always approach upwind. Crouch-walking or even crawling is essential. Once you have a clear shot, aim for the vitals – a double lung shot is ideal for a quick, clean kill and maintaining that 100% harvest integrity. Patience is truly a virtue in this hunt. I've spent real-life hours tracking a single whitetail deer in COTW, only to have it disappear into dense foliage. But the payoff when you finally claim that Great One is absolutely worth it. Keep at it, keep scouting those drink zones, and your G1 will eventually show!
