read this book before the movie comes out!

🏠 The Housemaid by Freida McFadden

Hello there! With the movie adaptation coming out at the end of the year, I thought I should share about this since I recently finished reading it! I highly recommend picking up the book first, you’ll thank yourself later. It’s gripping, fast-paced, and full of twists that’ll keep you second-guessing every character. I thoroughly enjoyed the book & am looking forward to catching the movie when it’s out 🍿🎬

📖Plot Summary:

Millie, an ex-convict desperate for a fresh start and another chance in life, takes a live-in housekeeping job for a wealthy family. From the beginning, she senses the job might be too good to be true, but desperation pushes her to ignore her doubts.

As expected, things quickly take an unsettling turn. Her employers are far from ordinary: the wife seems unhinged, the husband too charming, and the child adds an extra layer of chaos. Forced to live in the attic; a room with windows that don’t open and a door that locks only from the outside, Millie soon realizes that nothing is as it seems.

✨My Thoughts:

The plot was so captivating. I genuinely couldn’t stop thinking about it even when I wasn’t reading. It’s one of those books that completely pulls you in until you finish. The tension builds perfectly; dark, twisted, psychotic in the best way. Just when I thought I had it figured out, another twist would throw me off completely.

If you’re looking for a fast-paced, addictive thriller that’ll make you lose track of time, The Housemaid is 100% worth picking up.

Happy reading everyone 📚💕

... Read moreIf you loved the gripping and unpredictable nature of 'The Housemaid,' you might want to explore other compelling reads that share a similar dark and twisted vibe. Books like "Too Twisted Taboo" or works by Jennifer Niven offer intense storytelling that keeps you guessing. Before the movie adaptation of 'The Housemaid' arrives, diving deeper into the book allows you to appreciate the layered characters and plot nuances that a film might not fully capture. Millie's perspective, trapped in that attic with no escape, offers a chilling insight into psychological suspense. The novel's setting, especially her confinement in a room with windows that don’t open and an externally locked door, adds to the claustrophobic tension, which is brilliantly conveyed in McFadden's writing. This immersive experience is something to savor before watching the movie. For readers who enjoy stories of complex domestic dramas with a psychological twist, picking up "The Housemaid" is highly satisfying. It also opens doors to discussing themes such as trust, desperation, and manipulation in household dynamics.

Project Hail Mary: book, movie, or both?
My honest no-spoiler take: I liked both, but I actually preferred the movie. I know the book is probably the “better” answer because it gives you more detail, more logic, and more of the problem-solving process. But for me, sci-fi is such a visual genre that the movie just hit harder. The sca
