I don't know what Sarah Adams puts into her books, but once again, I couldn't stop flipping the pages.
Beg, Borrow, or Steal follows Emily, the eldest Walker sister, in an enemies-to-lovers romance. Just like the first two books in this series, what got me wasn't just the romance itself, but the yearning. The way the male lead genuinely tries to get your attention in the silliest ways, pursues you so earnestly, and quietly becomes your safe space amidst all the chaos.
There's a difference between quiet silence and silent treatment, and I think this book captured that beautifully. Sometimes love isn't loud. Sometimes it's simply finding someone whose presence brings you peace. And I think it was also cute how they wanted to keep it lowkey and a little secret between the two of them but her siblings were already sussing it out.
I've always loved a good enemies-to-lovers story because there's this undeniable pull between two people. No matter how much they try to fight it, they somehow keep finding their way back to each other.
But beyond the romance, what surprised me most was Emily's story.
As a younger sister whose older sister is already married, I found myself feeling unexpectedly emotional watching the eldest daughter finally get her happy ending. You can tell how difficult it was for Emily to let her guard down. I think society often places so much responsibility on first-born daughters - to be dependable, to look after everyone else, to set a good example, that sometimes they forget they're allowed to dream for themselves too.
I loved seeing Emily chase those dreams in her own way. Even though she enjoyed the career she'd built, writing was still something that quietly called to her. Watching her rediscover that part of herself, while also getting to know Jack and realising they had more in common than either of them expected, made this story feel like so much more than just a romance. In fact Jack himself has his own family background stories to share.
