Vitamin D3 and Nong Tao

Vitamin D3 is a vitamin that helps to extract calcium, because the tortoise needs to build a carapace, and the carapace expands according to body size. Without calcium, the carapace cannot be expanded, and without D3, calcium cannot be used at full capacity.
So where does vitamin D3 come from?
There are two main ways:
1. ☀️ UVB light (top priority) / natural sunlight
• The turtle will create D3 itself from the skin.
• There must be a basking area.
2. 🍤 Food
• Pellet foods for good turtles often contain D3 blends, supplementing vitamins even when raised in the shade.
What will happen if lacking?
• Soft, collapsed or malformed carapace
• Weary legs, strange walking / swimming
• Slow growth
• It can be deadly.
