We Met 6 IDs And Here’s How It Went

Hello 🍋s!

We’re in the midst of securing our ID way before key collection so we could kickstart the design process asap. NGL, the journey in finding ✨🏠 THE ONE 🏠 ✨ is tiring. This comes 2nd when I say wedding planning is stressful 😮‍💨 of course, we’re still blessed to be in this situation, and we’re trying to enjoy the process as much as we can.

We were so overwhelmed with all the different choices and ID firms, and we decided to give Qanvast ID matching a try. (Tldr: I wouldn’t go for it again if I had a choice)

Here’s why we didn’t like it:

1. The matched ID firms tend to be pushier and are very active in getting an appointment fixed (good for you if you’re very actively searching, but not that great for us since we were also trying to take our time and slowly choose). Since all 5 were happening at the same time, it might feel overwhelming. Also, I heard these firms pay Qanvast for leads which is why they are so active in reaching out.

2. It feels like they push their junior designers out to meet clients from such sources. All the IDs that we met with felt the same way — inexperienced.

3. With reference from above, don’t expect any out of the box designs. Good if you are looking for a simple reno.

4. Felt insincere, like they are just here to talk to you to hit KPI.

Even though we only managed to meet 3 out of 5 ID firms from the recommendations, we decided that this route wasn’t for us and we did not continue with the meetup for the other 2. And meeting the 3 firms was super mentally draining already, I cannot imagine others when they mention they meet over 100?!

_____

With only 3 ID firms in question, we definitely had to sought out independently, and we spoke with 3 other firms who was recommended through word of mouth or via social media. In comparison, there really was a difference in terms of vibes and value-adding overall. We’ve decided to go ahead with #6, and we are so excited to kickstart this journey!

_____

Swipe on to read more about the firms we met and if you’re keen, you can drop me a dm for this list, of which I will include the ID we highly recommend ☺️

Disclaimer: we’re definitely not bashing the companies or the 3rd party agent that connected us with them, or the ID that we met does not represent the whole company. It could just be a case of a wrong fit which is very common. Take our review with a pinch of salt!

... Read moreWhen we first started looking for an interior designer (ID), Qanvast seemed like a convenient option since they offer ID matching services. However, our experience showed that their matched firms were often a bit too aggressive in securing appointments and sometimes felt insincere, likely because these firms pay for leads and want to meet KPIs. This made the process quite overwhelming, especially since we were trying to take our time and explore options at a comfortable pace. One key insight from our meetings was that many Qanvast-recommended IDs were junior designers with limited experience. This meant the designs tended to be standard and not very innovative or tailored to our tastes. For example, although one designer gathered our requirements initially, many important details weren’t reflected in the floor plan during face-to-face meetings, requiring us to repeat ourselves. This was frustrating and made it harder to fully trust the process. We compared these experiences to independent recommendations from social media or word of mouth, where the vibes were much more welcoming and designers seemed genuinely interested in understanding our needs. One standout firm was recommended through friends and had a warm, friendly approach, was not pushy, and even accommodated our request to source tiles from JB. Although slightly more expensive, their focus on quality materials and workmanship won us over. We also learned to be cautious with pricing structures. Some firms required a hefty deposit to get a quote, limiting flexibility and adding pressure. For those considering Qanvast’s ID matching, our advice would be to use it as a starting point but don’t hesitate to reach out independently to designers with good reputations or personal recommendations. Personal connection and trust are invaluable. Also, clarify expectations upfront, especially regarding design originality, material quality (e.g., plywood grades), and fees. Remember that renovation is stressful but finding the right designer who listens and collaborates makes all the difference. Overall, our experience taught us that it’s worth investing time exploring multiple avenues to find the ID partner who truly aligns with your vision and can make your home uniquely yours. Don’t settle for convenience if it means sacrificing quality or comfort.

4 Room BTO after 6 years
My review on a few items that we have lived with and thought might not be worth it to splurge over the last 6 years. 1. Bidet - no matter how expensive (yes we bought expensive bidets amounting to $80 - 100++) it will get spoiled, water trickling out often. This one has been like our 5 - 6th one
