Fantasy books I haven’t moved on from

... Read moreYou know those fantasy books I haven't been able to move on from? The ones that stick with you long after you've turned the last page? I'm so excited to chat about a few authors whose incredible stories have truly captured my heart and imagination. If you're anything like me, you're always on the hunt for that next magical escape, and these picks definitely deliver! First up, let's talk about Katee Owen! Her work resonates deeply with me, especially for her fantastic LGBTQ+ representation. It's so refreshing and vital to find stories where queer characters aren't just sidelines but are the heroes and heroines of their own epic journeys. Her ability to craft compelling romances and intricate plots within rich fantasy settings makes her books truly unforgettable. If you're looking for passionate, diverse, and powerful fantasy reads that will make your heart flutter and keep you on the edge of your seat, you absolutely must check out her work. Her characters feel so real, and their struggles and triumphs stay with you long after you've finished reading. Then there’s the incredible Cassandra Clare. When someone mentions "Fairytale of London," my mind immediately goes to her iconic Shadowhunters universe. While I'm not aware of a specific standalone story with that title by her, her series are absolutely steeped in the magic and mystique of urban fantasy, often set against the backdrop of London's historic streets. Think ancient runes, demon hunters, and forbidden love all intertwined with the familiar landmarks of the city. I've spent countless hours lost in the world of the Nephilim, following Jace, Clary, Will, Tessa, and all the others through their thrilling adventures. Her world-building is just phenomenal, and the way she weaves mythology and history into her narratives is pure genius. Every time I pick up one of her books, I feel like I'm stepping into a secret, magical version of our own world. And finally, I have to gush about Maggie Stiefvater. You might have seen her name searched as "Mary Alexandra Stiefvater" sometimes, but trust me, Maggie Stiefvater is the queen of atmospheric, lyrical YA fantasy. Her writing style is utterly unique – it's almost poetic, and it wraps you up in the story completely. I'm particularly obsessed with "The Raven Cycle." The characters, especially Gansey, Ronan, Blue, and Adam, are so complex and flawed, and their friendships feel incredibly authentic. The quest for Glendower, the ley lines, the magical forests – it all creates a hauntingly beautiful and deeply emotional reading experience. Her books aren't just stories; they're experiences that linger in your mind, making them truly some of the fantasy books I haven't been able to move on from. If you appreciate a story with a strong sense of place, unforgettable characters, and writing that feels like pure art, then Maggie Stiefvater is an author you absolutely need to explore. Her narratives are often subtle and profound, drawing you into mysteries that unfold slowly and beautifully. These authors have truly left a mark on my reading journey, and I hope they do for you too! Happy reading!

fantasy books I want to read 🧚🏻🪄
my two biggest blind spots as far as genres go have always been YA and fantasy. Though I don’t naturally gravitate towards them i still like to keep an open mind and add them to my TBR when I come across them. This year I’m making more of a concerted effort to find books I like within these genres.
