Save my Lightroom Settings 🌊 Edit Canon G7X Photos

How to edit RAW files on the Canon G7X, and how I transformed this image into an aesthetic film look!

If you took your pics in the RAW format (for Canon point & shoot’s, the file extension is going to be .dng) upload them to your Lightroom application and follow the color grading settings in my slides.

I used the Desktop version of Lightroom which is a paid subscription, but you should be able to apply similar settings in the Lightroom mobile version which is free on the iPhone

* the Lens Correction panel is optional. If you choose to turn this on, and are using Lightroom Desktop version, but you took your pic using a non-Canon camera, you may choose the Lens Profile to the brand that you have (Nikon/Fuji/Sony/etc)

✨Disclaimer: This guide serves as a general reference on achieving a particular look, provided your original photo shares similar lighting and colors with mine. Preset settings may not universally apply to all photos. Each photo may require slight adjustments in color grading. If your multiple photos have consistent lighting, you can likely apply the same settings. Experiment with them, and don't hesitate to customize settings to match your desired aesthetic.

... Read moreIt's amazing how much a few tweaks in Lightroom can transform a good photo into something truly special, especially when you're aiming for that sought-after film aesthetic with your Canon G7X. I've spent countless hours experimenting to get my beach photos just right, and I'm excited to share more insights beyond the specific settings. Many of you are looking for that perfect 'Canon G7X preset Lightroom free' solution, and while specific presets are great, understanding the underlying adjustments empowers you to create your own signature look. Let's dive a bit deeper into the 'lightroom basic panel exposure contrast highlights shadows' that are critical for any edit. When you're editing beach photos, 'exposure adjustment' is often the first thing to tackle. Often, the bright sun can trick your camera, leading to underexposed subjects or blown-out skies. Don't be afraid to pull down those 'highlights' to recover detail in a bright sky or push up the 'shadows' slightly to reveal what's hiding in the darker areas of your beach scene. 'Clarity adjustment' is another game-changer; a subtle bump can add punch and definition to your waves and sand, making the scene pop without looking over-processed. But remember, a little goes a long way to avoid a harsh look! For that true 'film aesthetic,' the 'Tone Curve' and 'Color Grading' panels are your best friends. Instead of just relying on sliders, playing with the tone curve allows for more nuanced control over contrast and mood. A slight S-curve can add a classic film-like contrast. And 'Color Grading' in Lightroom? It's incredible! You can subtly tint your shadows with cool blues for a calming beach vibe or add warm tones to your highlights for a golden hour glow. I always experiment with the midtones to ensure the overall mood feels cohesive. It's about finding that balance that makes the photo feel lived-in and timeless. Speaking of your Canon G7X, its 'picture quality' is fantastic, especially when you shoot in RAW (.DNG). This is where having the original image fully intact makes all the difference. When you have a RAW file, you have so much more data to work with, allowing for significant adjustments in exposure and color without degrading the image. That's why I always recommend shooting in RAW if your camera allows – it gives you the creative freedom to truly develop your own 'Canon G7X recipe' for editing. Beyond the basic adjustments, don't overlook the 'Effects' panel. Adding a touch of 'grain' can instantly elevate your photo to that vintage 'film bokeh' look, something many of you search for. And if you notice any distortions common with wide-angle lenses, the 'Lens Corrections' panel can work wonders to clean up your image. The beauty of Lightroom is seeing the 'before after comparison.' It's incredibly satisfying to see a flat image transform into a vibrant, emotive piece. Don't be afraid to experiment with these settings yourself. While my specific settings might be a great starting point, every photo is unique. Use them as a guide, then tweak and play until you find what truly resonates with your vision. Happy editing!
