Came back after a year… and I was lowkey craving that sukiyaki broth 🍲

They added a new self-serve station for veggies + sides

love the upgrade, but it can get a little crowded during peak hours

🐄 Meat review:

⭐️ A5 Wagyu was the BEST out of everything we tried

If you care about quality, Gold tier is definitely worth it

✨ New items we tried:

⭐️ Salmon – decent, but would be better with a thicker cut + a little citrus

⭐️ Wagyu steak – surprisingly good, even slightly overcooked

tender, clean flavor, best with just a bit of salt

⭐️ Egg tarts – MUST GET 🤍

make sure they’re warm!! super creamy filling

crust could be more flaky, but still so good

(i literally came back just for these and got 3 😭)

Overall: still a solid spot for shabu in Duluth, especially with the new upgrades!

Having visited Chubby Cattle Shabu several times, I can share a bit more about what makes this spot stand out beyond just the premium meats. The self-serve station for vegetables and sides is a thoughtful upgrade that adds flexibility to your meal, allowing you to customize each pot according to your taste preferences. However, it can get quite crowded during peak dining hours, so planning for an off-peak visit could enhance your experience. The sukiyaki broth remains a crowd favorite for its rich, slightly sweet flavor that complements the Wagyu cuts perfectly. For those who enjoy a spicier kick, the mala broth paired with the marinated spicy beef from the self-serve station brings an exciting fusion of flavors that’s really worth trying. It brings a nice balance of heat without overpowering the natural taste of the meat. Speaking of the meat, the Gold tier upgrade definitely delivers value, especially with the A5 Wagyu slices that melt in your mouth thanks to their fine marbling and tenderness. Even when meat like the Wagyu steak is accidentally overcooked, its clean flavor and tenderness shine through, best enjoyed with just a sprinkle of salt. Don’t miss the egg tarts for dessert – these are surprisingly creamy and comforting, especially when served warm. While the crust might not be the flakiest, the filling more than makes up for it, making these tarts a perfect sweet note to end your meal. Also, a little insider tip: save some room to ask for Haagen-Dazs ice cream at the end of your meal to complete your shabu-shabu feast on a refreshing note. Overall, Chubby Cattle provides a satisfying and authentic Wagyu hotpot experience right in Duluth, blending quality meats, flavorful broths, and thoughtful service upgrades.
