What an incredible milestone—Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. turns 105 years old! Experiencing the joy and pride of this Founders' Day is truly special, and it makes me reflect on the rich history and profound legacy that our five visionary founders established. When I see the blue and white flying high, I can’t help but think of the courageous women who paved the way. Our story began on January 16, 1920, on the campus of Howard University, when Arizona Cleaver Stemons, Pearl Anna Neal, Myrtle Tyler Faithful, Viola Tyler Goings, and Fannie Pettie Watts defied societal norms to create an organization rooted in the principles of Scholarship, Service, Sisterhood, and Finer Womanhood. Their dedication to these ideals has shaped generations of women, and personally, I've always been inspired by their unwavering commitment to uplift and empower. Learning about each founder, their unique contributions, and the challenges they overcame truly deepens my appreciation for the sisterhood we share today. It’s not just a collection of names and dates; it’s a living, breathing testament to their enduring spirit, something I feel strongly when I see images of their monument dedicated to Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated, featuring their principles. One of the most unique aspects of our organization, which often sparks curiosity, is our constitutional bond with Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. This relationship is a cornerstone of our identity, making us the only Greek-letter organizations to share such a formal and enduring connection. I still remember visiting a historical marker sign for Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity and Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, listing founders and dedicated on January 16th, 2020 – a powerful reminder of this shared history and commitment to community upliftment. This bond is more than just a historical fact; it’s a vibrant partnership that continues to foster collaborative service and camaraderie within the Divine Nine. Our traditions are equally meaningful. Whether it's the rhythm of a Zeta Phi Beta chant, which ignites a sense of unity and pride, or the gentle symbolism of our mascot, the white dove, representing peace and purity, every element reinforces our collective identity. These traditions are not just rituals; they are expressions of our history, our values, and the powerful sisterly connections that bind us. Being a part of Zeta Phi Beta means carrying forward the torch lit by our founders 105 years ago.
