MIL wants my spot in the delivery room
I’m literally in the hospital right now with my wife waiting for the birth of our first child. In the room, there’s one couch that turns into a small bed and one recliner. I figured I’d take the couch since I’m staying the whole time with my wife — I’ll need at least a little sleep before we take care of a newborn.
But my mother-in-law decided she’s staying overnight too. She keeps making little comments about “how nice that couch looks” and I can tell she expects me to give it up. My wife’s too anxious to tell her to just go home.
I’m trying to stay polite, but… I’m not giving up the couch. She’s not the one giving birth or taking care of a baby tomorrow.
Would you give it up to avoid drama, or hold your ground?
