“I just want to hold my book in my hands.”

Years ago, my wife asked me what my ultimate goal was with getting published, and it was at the time, simply being able to hold my book and say, “I did it.”

I also mentioned that I wanted an official display where I could show it off to my friends and family. For over a year now I’ve kept my books on a shelf in my office, but I always wanted something that had an almost museum-like quality to it. A trophy case, if you will. With the release of AMONG SERPENTS imminent, I felt now was the time to take the plunge off the starboard bow and create the display.

This bookcase is still a work-in-progress. I have multiple foreign releases still forthcoming for the trilogy, and DOWNFALL is still a year off.

But I think this is a nice start, don’t you?

... Read moreSeeing my own books like 'Sky's End' and 'Among Serpents' finally displayed in a 'museum-like' case has been incredibly fulfilling, and it got me thinking about how much thought goes into creating the perfect home for our literary treasures! If you're pondering a dedicated 'case for books,' here are some of my personal insights and tips I’ve picked up along the way. First off, why even invest in a special book display? For me, it’s about celebrating the journey and inspiring future creations. Beyond that, a well-arranged display protects your books, makes them accessible, and truly turns them into a focal point of any room. Whether you’re an author, a passionate collector, or just someone who loves their reads, a dedicated display elevates your collection from mere storage to a cherished exhibit. When choosing a 'case for books,' consider a few things. I personally opted for a black display case with glass doors, which gives it that sleek, sophisticated, almost gallery-like feel. It really makes the vibrant covers of books like 'Sky's End' pop! Think about your space: do you have room for a wide bookcase or a taller, narrower display? Glass doors, like mine, are fantastic for keeping dust out and adding a touch of elegance, plus they protect against curious pets or little hands. If security is a concern, some cases even offer locks. Don’t forget lighting! Subtle LED strips can transform your display, highlighting your favorite titles and creating a beautiful ambiance, especially if you have a dark case. Arranging your books is where the fun really begins! I’ve found that mixing standing copies with neat stacks, as you can see with 'Sky's End' and 'Among Serpents', adds visual interest. Don’t be afraid to incorporate promotional items or little mementos. I love having small promotional cards alongside my books, and that silver eagle statue and abstract red and blue sculpture in my display really add character. It’s about telling a story with your collection. For future releases, like the upcoming 'DOWNFALL 3 Coming Spring 2026', I made sure to include a dedicated spot, even if it’s just a sign for now. It builds anticipation and shows the evolution of your work. That 'DOWNFALL' sign at the bottom, beneath the main display, is a constant reminder of what's next. Speaking of future plans, my display is still a work in progress! I’m looking forward to adding foreign releases and more books as they come out. It’s an evolving canvas. Maintenance is simple: a quick wipe down of the glass and dusting of the shelves keeps everything looking pristine. Ultimately, creating a book display, whether it’s a grand 'museum-like book display' or a cozy shelf, is a personal expression. It’s a chance to showcase not just books, but your passion and dedication to stories. What kind of display are you dreaming of?
