a book i had high hopes for, but was disappointing

i finally read the fifth and final book in the Chestnut Springs series & here are my honest thoughts! this is just my opinion! if you loved this book, i love that for you!

i am SO sad that this series is over!! I absolutely adore this series and have loved every single book in this series, until Hopeless…..

I ended up rating this book two stars. I will say I loved that we got a peek into the other couples from the other books, but I wish the Eaton family was a larger part like the other books. For this being the final book in the series, I felt the least connected to the Eatons which was sad. I had such high hopes for Beau from the bits we got from him in the other books but I unfortunately could not connect to him whatsoever. His trauma was so sad to read about and I understand that affected him immensely, but I just couldn’t really connect with his personality or decisions. I liked Bailey’s personality some, but the town being awful towards her I felt was focused on way too much and took away from the story. And she slightly annoyed me. I felt the chemistry between them was purely physical which just isn’t really my thing!

Regardless of this book, I absolutely ADORE this series and Elsie’s writing. You can always depend on her to write a hilarious, easy to binge book! This series will forever hold such a special place in my heart!!💓

... Read moreThe Chestnut Springs series, known for its engaging storytelling and relatable characters, takes a different turn in its final installment, "Hopeless." Readers familiar with the series might find that the book carries a more somber theme, much focused on trauma and emotional distance, particularly concerning Beau Eaton's character. Though prior books showcased a well-crafted connection and chemistry between couples, the execution in this finale seems to lack that depth. The dynamics between Beau and Bailey appear to revolve more around physical attraction, which many readers may find less appealing when compared to heartfelt connections built in earlier books. This dichotomy raises questions about character development and the significance of personal struggles affecting relational dynamics. Fans will feel a level of nostalgia, especially with glimpses into past couples, but many have cited the need for more substantial involvement from the Eaton family, hinting at an incomplete closure to their journey. The emotional heaviness tied to the characters' past experiences, while authentic, may overshadow the lightheartedness that made the series enjoyable, leading to mixed reviews. For fans of romance, it serves as a reminder of how expectations can shape our reading experience, revealing that even beloved series can have their ups and downs.
