Foundation reviews of my fav 🥰

... Read moreFinding the perfect foundation can feel like a quest, especially when you're just starting your makeup journey or looking to upgrade to a more 'luxe' option. I remember feeling so overwhelmed by all the choices! Based on my own trials and errors, and many of the foundations I've rated, here are some thoughts I wish I knew when I first started exploring. When it comes to luxe foundations, what exactly are we paying for? Often, it's about advanced formulations that offer better wear, a more refined finish, and sometimes skincare benefits. For example, some foundations are known for being incredibly long-lasting, able to fight humidity like a champ, perfect for those humid days where other foundations might just melt away. However, I've learned that even cult favorites, popular for a reason, can be fussy with primers or require great prep to look their best. And sometimes, despite a great shade range, a formula might still cause you to break out, which is a bummer after investing in a high-end product. One common struggle for many, myself included, is dealing with oily skin. While some foundations promise a matte finish, I've found that some can actually feel incredibly heavy on the skin, or worse, split throughout the day. And then there are those that provide a beautiful luminous finish without being dewy – what I like to call 'Mattel doll skin' – which is a tricky balance to achieve! On the flip side, beware of foundations that feel too drying and flat, making your face look like a mask. It's all about finding that sweet spot for your skin type. For beginners, choosing a foundation can be intimidating. My biggest piece of advice is to start by understanding your skin type: are you oily, dry, combination, or normal? This will guide you towards matte, dewy, or natural finish foundations. Next, focus on color matching. Don't be afraid to ask for help! Go to a trusted retailer like Ulta or Sephora, and ask a sales associate to help you swatch shades on your jawline and neck. Step outside to check it in natural light. A good foundation should disappear into your skin. When you're ready to buy, consider asking for samples before committing to a full bottle, especially for those pricier luxe foundations. This way, you can test it for a few days to see how it wears, if it causes any irritation, or if it truly is long-lasting for you. It's also a great way to see if it plays well with your existing skincare and primers. Remember, a foundation that gets a 10/10 from one person might be a 5/10 for another, simply because skin types and preferences vary. Don't be discouraged if your first few tries aren't perfect; it's all part of the learning process!
